I continue my 'sweeps month' (September, 2012) with another 'photo-op' (of a well-known celebrity I just didn't have the time to pose with)...
During the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s - when I was still living near New York City - I used to frequent these specialty comic book conventions in Manhattan called "Creation Conventions", where I not only got to buy some of the rarest comic titles from the past, but I got to see and meet some interesting personalities. They included such people as animation authority Jerry Beck, and anthroartists Phil Yeh, Milton Knight, and "Fur Affinity" alumnus
Daphne Lage.
Of course, I also went to the "Creation Convention" to see and hear lectures from a variety of TV and movie actors (too many of whom I have the time to describe).
At one such lecture in the late 1980s, I got to see "Star Trek" regular George Takei - who played 'Mr. Sulu' on the original TV series of the late 1960s, and who reprised the role in several "Star Trek" movies in the 1980s and 1990s. (His other film credits include two Jerry Lewis comedies ["The Big Mouth" and "Which Way To The Front?"], and Tom Hanks' recent directorial effort "Larry Crowne".) One of his latest film roles is a small part in the 2012 flick "Art of Submission".
A few years ago, Takei 'outed' himself, and ever since has supported many 'gay rights' issues. And, earlier this month, he appeared in Los Angeles at a ceremony to help his "Star Trek" co-star Walter ('Chekov') Koenig receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
I hope to post a few more celebrity 'photo-ops' (from other "Creation Conventions" I'd attended), later this 'sweeps month'...

A guest star in the only "banned" Twilight Zone episode..."The Encounter" with Takei as a young gardener and Neville Brand as a World War II veteran.
Very controversial as Takei's character hinted that his father plotted the Pearl Harbor bombing from the US causing tension between Brand's character and himself. The story is fictional, though.

Most recently, Takei appeared in a series of TV spots about Social Security. You can check them out on YouTube:
