I've lived in Florida, which is so far south that it's not part of the South, and I hail from North Carolina, probably the most liberal of any of the southern states. It took us over 150 years after the Civil War to allow the Republicans control of our state legislature. We're also like the only southern state right now Obama might win, except for Florida, which doesn't really count for the reason I stated above. XP
