At first glance, these two dinosaurs appear to be the common Triceratops and her baby. But nope! Totally different. :P
The name "Chasmosaurus" means “chasm lizard” because of the large opening on its frill.
With three short horns on its face, Chasmosaurus is thought to resemble a rhinoceros. It weighed around two tons, was 16-26 feet long and measured about six feet tall.
What They Ate: Chasmosaurus was an herbivore (plant eater), consuming ground cover, low shrubs and other low-hanging foliage.
Where Fossils Have Been Found In North America: Texas and Alberta, Canada
What They Did: It is believed they lived in herds. Paleontologists speculate that the giant awning of bone and skin on its head may have taken on bright colors during mating season to attract a mate, or perhaps it served a purpose in thermoregulation.
How They Are Doing: Extinct. Lived in the Cretaceous Period, 76-70 million years ago.
