Since Hazzy didn't really go into the reasons, I'll say this: In addition to being beefy and hot (and having a sexy voice in the anime), Guin is noble, kind to the weak, and good-hearted, while also being strong, badass, and completely in control of his own self. He stands up to evil and vicious people and defeats them without gloating or lowering himself, and he faces his challenges with calm determination. He's got huge problems but doesn't mope or whine about it like most emo heroes nowadays (especially in anime). Even though he's an old character, his type of character is so rare nowadays that he's really refreshing and impressive.
