I came home tonight bored as hell but didn't feel like cleaning, so I grabbed a small chunk of white marble and bashed it with a hammer, then carved a chunk of it into a polar bear.
I might add more detail to em later, but now that I know I can carve marble, I think I might make some other stuff next time I get a day off.

I am so glad there's someone on FA who can carve! I work with assorted materials (I seem to always have a need to make something), but I've never worked with stone before. Do you think you could send me a note with just some information on how you carved the bear, like what sort of tools you used and whatnot? I'd really appreciate it, I love learning new things.
well. I gotta say that white marble is very easy to work with but it dose chip a bit, I used a dremel but the stone cutting bits didn't work at all, for some reason the wood carving bits worked awesome, it still takes forever and you lose a lot like, it was supposed to be a fox, then a raccoon, then a cat then i wound up being a bear because its face snapped off. I would rather use a standard chisel set and sand paper, lol surprisingly the best shaping tool was another chunk of marble, ever rub two blocks of Styrofoam together? yeah same thing happens with marble apparently, the little crystals fall apart. this is the first thing i ever tried to carve out of marble, I have to say it was very fun. Also, a tip, Don't draw lines and cut and score marble to break it into shapes, it rarely works lol just smash with a hammer and chunk it down to what you want for size.
