Imagine a scab that covers your body, and it feels like that. But it quickly dries up into a nice soft skin layer

Yeah, basically the aliens born with the second layer of skin have been regarded as gaurdians where they're from. They're naturally protective, and are deceivingly strong, despite their delicate looks. Skoon actually gets himself into trouble living away from his home planet, so like, it's been rather useful. But it sucks that he has to be careful when it's cold. Winter time is snuggle season I guess
