I can understand if you don't tolerate but why can't he respect what other people like? This indifference is why people hate him.

Stating his opinion is one thing but presenting himself as an asshole is another. Seriously, when you have 15 to 20 people telling you how much a dick your friend is being, maybe they should evaluate this friendship of theirs.
