How I love black spiral dancers and was finally able to paint on. Truly one of the most evil race of werewolves ever created. Mixed media acrylic based ink, marker and colored pencil.

That is so rad! You played the old Werewolf:The Apocalypse in world of darkness? Of all the tribes and changing breeds, The black spiral dancers, Kitsune, and Ananasi were my faves <3 I wish they gave em more of a book than Freak Legion and Book of the Wyrm, but ah well. Awesome pic!
I have played Werewolf the apokalypse and being honest I prefer it to the ceaseless political power play campaigns of the Vampire RPG the company also produces.
Being honest... this is the best Black Spiral picture I have ever seen.
There's a frightening -wrongness- to this creature, almost as if it could just shrug off it's fur and leap at you as only teeth. claws and muscles.
I forget the proper name for it but is that one of those whips that cause agony when they strike bare flesh?

Ahhhhh, good ol' WtA. Never got to play a game of it, but I had damn near every book they made on it - Core book, Player's Guide, Rage Across the World Volumes 1-3, all 13 tribe books and all the Changing Breeds books except for the Rokea, Corax, Nagah and Shapechangers of the East.
Nice to see one of these classic nasties rendered so well.

They a werewolf clan. See www.white-wolf.com/werewolf.html
They're a controversial clan, working together with the most evil powers in the game, hated by most other werecreatures with the interesting exepton of the asian clans. But i may remember this wrongly, so better read it up.

They are the bad guys of the werewolf part of the old World of Darkness. No other non-evil shifter race likes them at all and tend to try and kill them on the spot if able. All BSD's have some kind of insanity to some point or another. Most tend to be deformed also in some manner, though the most scary ones tend to look like a very lovely white furred werewolf with intensely glowing green eyes. Those are throwbacks to their days when they were called the White Howlers. Their entire tribe was corrupted fighting an evil werewolves call the wyrm, and now they try to destroy the world in the name of an evil they once fought... Whew... I think thats pretty good for a short telling of what Black Spiral Dancers are.^^;
The wyrm is evil, what it was use to be something that of a cleaner of sorts clearing out the old for the new. It became trapped when the weaver became insane, and then it itself became insane trying to destroy everything, not just clearing out the old like was its job. Even in the books when they talk about the BSD's and the wyrm from a game master stand point they describe them as evil and disturbing. That is also why they don't suggest players ever to be allowed to play bsd's unless you have a very mature rp group due to how twisted and evil they are.
Ran the game for over 10 years, and own every book put out except for like one book. I guess I don't know much about the game really. Though from what I recall of my statement to start I said. "They are the bad guys of the werewolf part of the old World of Darkness."
And yes I did state the wrym was evil, which is stated in The Book of the Wyrm, Freak Legion, Umbra the Velvet Shadow, and in The Book of the weaver. These aren't other factions saying this, its in the gm notes. This is the last post I'll say anything on it about as this is becoming redundant.

Mmk, still supports my posts and the like.>>; However most shifter books when they talk about creation in the old WoD tell you that there story is the real one. All books are written from the aspect of a high member of that group and thus all have a skewed view from their vantage point.
To add to this, how the wyrm became what it was. The wyld at the start of time in old Wod began to make things, the weaver then began to put things in order, the wyrm removed that which was becoming old and stagnant while the wyld kept making and the weaver kept placing things in order. The weaver looked back on her work at one point and saw that all of her work was for naught because anything she put into order the wyrm destroyed in the end, seeing this she became mad/insane and wove her web around the wyrm trapping it. The wyld saw this and fled away from the weaver so as not to be caught. The wyrm began to try and escape by destorying everything around itself and eventualy became insane. No longer to content to destroy what was old and defunct it wanted to end it all and thus became corrupt. Old WoD explains this with all the wyrms creatures it uses being twisted reflections of themself and such.
The end book for the shifters offers many endings to the world one of them being what was listed previously, most are not so happy endings.

This looks like quite an evil and viscious beast.
Truthfully I reject the standard occultist and christian point of view that all werewolves are evil creatures.
In fact if you looked at alot of ancient stories and such from old civilizations like Rome and such, you would actually hear the opposite being said about werewolves, and many would describe them as noble zealots of good.
It seems though that this picture is related to some silly game than actual werewolves, so my comment would matter very little here.

I was always fond of freaking out my players with the Black Spiral Dancers I created. Nice and twisted and scary. The only thing that was as much fun was making Fomori. One of my favorite characters from the dark ages books was Dances The Spiral Backwards. She was one of the NPCs in the back of the book. She fought her way all the way out of a hive killing every BSD on her way out. I dont recall how she got down there but she was pissed.
Most of the BSD's my group ever ran across in WTA were more deformed then this and tended to look more like hyenas. GM's preference I think. The ones I read about in the novels/tribe book are actualy far more varied than that.
I actually made a BSD character called Knows-No-Name...I'll have to post her char reference here, along with Bleach, Chain-Drive, Heart-Of-Gold and a few others.

He looks very evil doesn't he, but its not always that simple, the Dancers torture their "new recruits" until they are just as insane and bloodthirsty as the originals.
This is why I prefer the Nuwisha and the Kitsune, no matter what happens you can always laugh, you can't do anything but laugh.
