I will always remember the day when I first rode a "two-wheeler". Boxing Day, it was a cool, sunny morning in Muswellbrook. My Dad and my uncle, stood in the park and coaxed me to get onto my Christmas present - a green and black Northern Star BMX bicycle.
Sure it was slightly too big for me and the front handbrake never worked. Sure I spent half the morning being picked up by my dad every time it fell over before he plonked me back on to try again. All that mattered was I had a bike. I even had the greatest accessory of all for any young Australian cyclist - a lime green Stackhat - the acme of children's cycle safety wear.
Although I don't ride a bike any more, every time I see my old bike hanging in my parent's garage, I remember that cool summer's day and my riding lessons. It always brings a smile to my face.
