Oh, it's rather easy if you have the right tools. Recently my friend pointed to ZBrush ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZBrush ) as an example of such a tool. It's more like sculpting than conventional 3d-modelling (which I suck at). Still, the background scene and final rendering are up to 3DMax, Lightwave of other stuff I'm not really good at.
