Long before I'd used the Internet to communicate with various friends and relatives, most of my correspondences were via 'snail-mail' - in the form of letters and greeting cards in envelopes - most of which were adorned with rubber stamps images. Since the 1980s, I had amassed a huge collection of stamps (made of rubber and/or plastic) that I had also used to create interesting works of art...
But the pride of my stamp collection is a specially-made stamp of my head (complete with smiley face, which beats out any old emoticon)!
Back in 1989, General Mills' Cheerios had a special offer on the back of the cereal box. Simply send $3.00, two UPC codes (from the bottom of said box), and a photo of yourself; and in 6-to-8 weeks, you'll get a laser-cut plastic stamp of your head - in its own self-inking cap/pad.
At the time (when I was still living on Long Island), I was working in the Art Department at Rugby-Darby Pharmaceuticals in the Westbury area. And I got a co-worker to take a photograph of me for the Cheerios stamp offer. (The logic being that adults can take advantage of this deal, and not just kids - whom the cereal was made for.)
Said co-worker took two pictures of me: one with my eyeglasses on, and the other with said glasses off. He'd suggested I remove them, in case the flash reflected off of the glasses; and, of course, he was right about that...
So, I submitted the photo of myself sans eyeglasses - along with the UPC codes and the money - and two months later, I got the stamp... and I haven't stopped using it since! Eventually, I wore out the self-inking cap/pad, so I began using a regular black inking pad, which works just as well...
The 'photo-op' above is the original picture that resulted in the laser-cut plastic stamp - seen in the red-bordered inset.
(No doubt, some of you "FA" members might have received a letter or a card with my face next to the mailing address, some time in the past. Well, now you know where that image first came from. And one final note: Since that 1989 'photo-op' was taken, I'd shaved both my beard and mustache!)

You bear an uncanny resemblance to the current Iranian President: http://www.catholicismusa.com/wp-co.....madinejad1.jpg. x3
To the point that when I clicked this on the front page, I was wondering why somebody uploaded a picture of him. x3!

There is also a stationery store in Delray Beach (FL) that can make customized stamps. Last year, it made a stronger rubber stamp image of the head of my bobcat 'fursona' (to replace a previously produced one - from another store - which eventually deteriorated over the years). Hey, nothing lasts forever, after all!
