This is taking longer than I anticipated. At least the image isn't going to be flat.

Still to do: sharpen everything, bridge background to foreground, introduce minimal colour, add tribal elements to character.

Great looking Sketch John, and here is a quick suggestion about the values of the environment to give it a better sense of depth and focus to the character (at the moment my eye is pull over the the more contrasting tones in the top left)
Bottom left is the original in B&W, right is the above adjusted image.

Thanks for taking the time, Stu! While the right image is definitely easier to digest, it also is flattened out to almost a studio backdrop. I'll try to find a compromise when I move forward and send you another WIP, if that's okay. :>

I really like how everything around the subject of the image seems like it's in motion while the subject is stagnant with crisp detail. It's sort of like you're drawing in reverse yet delivering the same impact.

I plan on buying the books soon myself. The current copy I have, it is possible that I may have acquired it through less than legitimate means...
So I mean, there's a certain well known place that you can get it from if you're hurting for cash.

And to be honest, the story isn't particularly brilliant, so ideally I would want to order copies off of Amazon.co.jp, which that site the reviews are on actually has a really handy guide to doing.

You assume correctly. When I saw bits on a Google Image search at the beginning of my Mythology series, I knew in my heart that I needed the influence of his work.
