Pictured here are the two most famous aircraft designers in the history of Rain Island, Stavros Kypriakos and Sally Volstead.
Kypriakos was born in Athens in 1871, and went on to be an acknowledged genius in aeronautical engineering. Refusing to subordinate himself to other aviation pioneers, he emigrated to Rain Island in order to let a younger nation, as he put it in 1931, "have the benefit of my presence.”
Sally Volstead was born near Windsor, Ontario in 1880, and showed an early aptitude for machinery and mechanics. Finding her aspirations frustrated by the prevailing attitudes in Canada at the time, she too emigrated to Seathl and met Kypriakos in 1912.
The two never married (and may not have especially liked each other; Kypriakos was a driven genius who had very little tolerance for others, while Volstead was gregarious and extroverted), but their company, the KV Aircraft Works, won renown both in their adopted country and throughout the Pacific for innovative design.
