TJ is watching an all night Doctor Who marathon on PBS. They're showing the classic episodes featuring Tom Baker, Peter Davidson and Jon Pertwee. TJ's watching a dalek episode and right now he wishes he had a sofa to hide behind. Good thing he has his trusty doggie to protect him!

Essentially, it's the story of an alien wizard traveling through all of time and space in a magic blue box that's bigger on the inside, usually with a Companion he picks up along the way. It's known for somewhat cheesy special effects and lots and lots and lots of monsters. The show's only a year or two away from it's fiftieth anniversary.

This video here is a good primer for Doctor Who, and it isn't too long.

Not complaining. I love that thing and it's wonderful blue color. True story: I'm planning to move into a duplex in the next several months, and the front door is already TARDIS blue. I almost squeeed.
Oh, and can't forget him being banished to modern earth during the transition to color because they couldnt afford the time travel aspect now.

Yep. It was amazing what the writers could do to work around the problems they had. The actors, too. Everything about the old shows (not just Doctor Who, but everything) looks hokey, but I'm still able to suspend my disbelief as well as, if not better, than with the new stuff.
It's weird. Doctor Who for me is really easy to suspend my disbelief. I may comment on how they could have dropped the Angel of Liberty and replaced it with a horde of the Weeping Cherubs, but I actually have to remind myself how freaking weird this show is otherwise I just accept all of it. It's all a part of the experience.
