plain old corrosion might have been a bigger problem, even if you conserve the body there are places that will always pose a problem. that. and that they were never as popular as the 2CV, so many were plundered or discarded in the past.
a pity, really, they were good rides. have you ever seen their "Sattelite Switches" setup around the steering wheel? one step closer and you have a full steering wheel remote control. :)

wow! those are even a rarity in france! it's one with the big grille, yes?
hehe, last year they found five complete 2CV prototypes in some remote building at Citroen's, which were apparently saved from deconstruction... and all those years everybody believed they were all gone! :)

Mine is one of the few remaining survivors of early imports, from what I can tell.
Among the spare parts that came with it was a rusty section of an aftermarket headlight bar, made of thicker metal and fitted with larger GE sealed beams. That tells me it was probably imported before the 1970s, when all imports here had to be fitted with one of only a few approved types of standard-size headlights to be certified for road use by the DOT.
I opted for the original-spec Cibie amber bulbs during the restoration.

awesome. sounds like a pretty rare find! ^^
there is somethign rarer... after WW2 Ford of germany came up with some american-like Ford, the P2, looking like a mini-fairlane. it's successor, the P3, looked a bit like a bullet. think of a '62 Thunderbird reduced to a standard sedan. we pegged them "Bathtub" because of the high sides and airy feel under large windows.
now the station wagon was turned into pickups by Ford of South Africa. the germans sent them about 1500 station wagons for rebuild. all of them except three are gone by now. and only one is in runnign condition, the others are mere wrecks. and the third one needed a complete overhaul of the tech run into the groudn quite literallly... some german collector took it home, sotosay. I have seen pics and saw the result, and it's probably the rarest Ford in the world after the GT90 supercar. XD

I've seen the P3 Taunus. A very interesting design!
There are a couple of pics on this site of P3 pickups: http://www.ford-p3-register.de/
I like the old German and English Fords.

hehe, this is the site where I got some details from, also some classic car magazine. and of course, firsthand. :)
for whatever reason I view myself as a dyed-in-the-wool fordoholic. despite growing up with Renault 4 and learnign car mechanic on Opel my first ride was a '77 Taunus station wagon, in signal green with green interior. :) that was 1990. since then there were several Taunus between '72 and '77, and one Opel... but not for long.
also, Granada-Consul. big chunk of a sedan, with generous insides, and a whopping 75 HP! but very comfy. was a sad day when I had to sell it due to tight budget...
I also collect model cars of Fords and related, and have found some curious things over the yeaars, from barely recognizable toys to surprisingly detailed works from the 60 and 70's. I plan to put them all online some day soon, with register and info and such, as a service to fellow collectors.
