Have not posted anything lately. "I am alive" Still having issues with my left hand but here is a photo of a few projects I am working on. Re-sculpted the Mordecai head completely and started a new Sculpt for slugbox

nah trust me there are sculptures out there that are a billion times better than what I can do.. But ill never be the best. "but I try"

Believe it or not. But toon versions of characters are so much more work than Realistic as you have to get everything super smooth and proportionally correct. You really cannot hide anything.

oh most definitely,
been wanting to figure out action figures or dolls for the longest time,
but that seems to be a project that involves more waiting, in the meantime though
I'm gonna go buy a fresh block of the grey professional sculpy clay and try something
different.

Try using Monster clay. Yes you have to cast it afterwards but its a nice clay to work with. The grey clay I am using in the progress pictures here is a new type of clay that is still not available to the public.

hmm,
I was just considering going the way I already know,
then working up from there, I was also considering making
molds for any work that i come up with, but I'm still pretty green
in a lot of these areas.

Personally I went from using Super Sculpty, to Chavant.. then I found Monster clay in which is a really good Clay to use overall for either big or small sculpts. then I have my new preferred clay for 12" sculpts is the new CX5 clay. its way to hard to work with if the sculpt is huge, So for large sculpts I go back to using Monster clay.

when you say "you have to cast it" do you mean it needs a hardener/catalyst?

been a few years since I've worked with any clay.

oh, The monster clay and CX5 never actually cures or hardens. so you have to make a negative mold so you can pour it into a Resin form making more than 1 copy. :)

usually if it looks appealing to me. and if I think I can sell a few to help cover the cost of the materials. Usually that's all it takes. I try to stay away from personal characters as those tend to only have a interest of a single buyer.

not really. I usually keep the original.. But I also have the option of melting it back down once finished casting the sculpture.

it will eventually be the entire character I ran out of the prototype clay and am waiting for it to become available again.

Well, "custom" as if I think I can sell at least 15 of them to take care of the cost of materials etc.. I tend to stay away from single run characters as I can put in about 150+ hours in a single sculpt. in which pretty much makes it unaffordable for one person to buy a single sculpture.

You're getting great results with the CX5. Can I ask what waxer you're using?
