Well, I keep a pet california mantis in fact - she's got an egg case and is chewing on a cricket right this second. The males have very slender bodies and wings that extend past the end of the abdomen - They almost look like stick insects. Thanks for saving her from the road! It's nice to hear about other people who can love something like a spikey bug. <3

I haven't kept one for a bunch of years but it was fun. I dunno, my family thought I was gross and weird for keeping something I had to feed crickets and such to, but it was good times. I used to have quite the menagerie in those days, fed all sorts of things other living things.... Good times!
