Ever have a story idea hit you really hard and your brain will just not let up on you until you finally sit down and start writing? I'm in the midst of one of those right now (and I'm still not sure what to call the thing!). Out of the blue one afternoon, I was possessed to draw the main character. This is Lily. If she looks like a bit of a nerd... well, she kinda is. She likes to go online a lot and is fascinated by death. Her own, specifically. Her handle is SnuffSkwrl. She's very self-conscious about her looks, but I think her glasses and tummypudge are cute.
This is also the first time I've used colored pencils in years. And while I think I screwed up some of it, I do like how furry her tail looks.

Yay! Lily likes to snuggle too. She was partly inspired by one of my favorite plushies; a pudgy foot-tall copper-furred squirrel who is perfect for hugging. She's named Shana, since she looks just like the way I pictured the character in 'Sweetiepie'.
So, how goes the move, BTW?

All my stuff is here. Speakeasy is still dragging their heels on setting up the DSL line (actually it was the phone company; somehow the contact number didn't get updated so they couldn't call me, and they couldn't be arsed to buzz the manager on the callbox to get basement access.), so I'm still siphoning wireless, albeit a lot more reliably now that I'm down here; somehow the signal is just better. My speakers don't work anymore; while I was setting my computer up I heard a POP from them and the light on the amplifier went out. Through testing I determined that, to my great relief, the speakers and amplifier were both okay, but the transformer that fed them needed replacement. After much traveling around the U District trying to find a power supply with enough amperage to feed the hungry amplifier, I eventually just ordered a universal power supply from Amazon.
Oh, and I got another DS game since finishing the Phoenix Wright series. Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. It's fun. One puzzle actually requires you to close the DS as a puzzle component. I've never seen any other game in which that was anything but sleep mode. The game rules: despite having ONLY the touch screen for movement, attacking, and item use, it's actually quite easy to control (except rolling). And there are a few "shortcut" keys, like holding the shoulder buttons to use your selected item, that make it even better.
But you don't want to hear about my latest digital drug. Sorry. Anyway, thanks for the art link (Portal sex). Tomorrow I get a half day of work because the servers shut down at noon for the colocation move. Down side: I have to cram the most important four hours of work in at the very beginning, cutting all the corners I can. Up side: Once that's done, I can fuck around for the rest of the day. Grab necessary apartment supplies from the store (out of conditioner, need Ziploc bags for the lunchmeat and cheese... etc.) and then cub out like a motherfucker.

As far as pencils go, I don't think I'll be using them again anytime soon. I only used them since I thought the pic just wouldn't work with bright, solid, computer coloring. I ended up having to erase almost her entire head since I colored her fur with a different pencil from her paws and ears and didn't realize till after I finished! And I *still* wasn't able to get the raspberry-so-dark-it's-nearly-black color I was hoping for for her hair. *grumblegrumble*
Oooooh, you are back into writing mode? Way cool! I am definitely looking forward to reading the results ... and your picture only makes me more curious. Besides, I think nerds are cool (being one myself...). I wonder what Lily is up to in your story -- her handle gives me an inkling, though. I think, this is definitely going to be fun. :)
...I had not noticed that. I'll have to go watch some more Bond films.

I have been incredibly lax (or lapsed) in my Bond-watching. I actually haven't seen any more recent than "Tomorrow Never Dies." Once I get the DSL hooked up, I am going on a torrent binge. (Alternatively, once I get a TV in here, I'm going to make a holy pilgrimage to the DVD rental place up the street.)
Tomorrow Never Dies sucked. It was just a regular action film that happened to have Bond in it. Die Another Day is the best for sheer outlandish cartoonyness and Casino Royale is astonishingly well-made. (And has a scene involving ball torture.)
Ain't torrents fucking great!?

She is pretty cute, though different than what I had in my empty head when I was reading the story.
Her eyes kind remind me of one of my cat's. When he looks right at you, it looks like his eyes are at the inner corner of the sockets, making him look kind of nerdish (if he had glasses, there'd be no denying it). My ex-girlfriend thought it made him look cute.
