Inbetween commissions I decided to try out minimal layer painting with Sai's brush tool. It still looks pretty amateur to me, but it's a fuckton better than my previous attempts with pen tools on lower opacity or something.
Took me about an hour and a bit to do form the ground up. What do you guys think?
Also, incase you're wondering, this is 'Dr.' Brandt. A talanted 42 year old doctor who's also the undisputed, undefeated champion in the Feral curcuit for 7 years running. He's made of German, Wing-Chun and really nasty weakness knowledge that he'll exploit with lightning speed. No gassin blad. He uses his fight money to fund his free clinic in the city of Alta Docks, usually tending to the other Ferals, sometimes the ones he puts there.
What a charming fellow ne?
He has big plans in my comic idea that is literally filled up, loaded with passengers and fully prepared to take off, but is grounded due to there being an elephant on the runway or some bullshit...

Hmm, kay from what i'm seeing, things look pretty good in the shading department, but the lighting looks kind of strange on his complexion. for the green edgelights i would have used a yellow and tried to add a bit more of a "warm" color tone just because this character is so pale. Still - the shading on this looks pretty good, and it looks like you understand where the light/shadow should hit. I like the warm/cool tones in the pants, and i think the lighting is good but track pants do have a teenny bit more texture, so you would very lightly see a crease in the pants.
