Finally the dragon has bought an Xbox 360. KMart was selling the new Xbox 350 Pro packages (with the two games) for $538 AUD and throwing in F.E.A.R. as well. I was very tempted and undecided on buying the 360. Ga was thinking about practicality and the sharp pain his hip pocket. Kaa was just thinking of herself. Eventually Kaa won and the 360 is now sitting on my desk beside my rack of games.
But even Ga was impressed when they put Halo 3 and Portal on the machine. I think that finally sold him.
* Update *
To save repeating myself - I don't have broadband so I don't have Xbox live so don't bother looking for my gamertag, you won't find me.
But if I did, it would be 'AraKaraath'. (unless some arseole has pinched it already)

Gears of War: Highly recommended. I couldn't put it down. Looks great, feels awesome, difficulty curve is just right, brilliant game.
Halo 3: awesome. I didnt let myself get wound up in the hype. It lives up to my expectations and more. Screw the reviewers. Dunno what they were expectin...
Portal: What a brilliant game. Fun, entertaining and funny as hell.
Half-life 2: still damn good, made better with minor tweaks.

Portal is definately one of the best games I've played all year! It's hilarious and creepy at the same time and features the coolest gun ever! n.n
And I lurve HL2 and episodes! I think the story, setting, and characters are much cooler than Halo, myself.
I wanna snuggle a Combine Hunter! >.>;

This is one of the new batches of 360s. It's a Pro with a HD out port and (hopefully) the larger heatsink to prevent it from burning out. This swayed me into getting one.
Also I have mine completely out in the open with all the vents exposed and I don't play it for extended hours .. yet (I haven't sat down with Oblivion yet; it's glaring at me from the shelf)
If you're concerned about reliability, now is the time to biy a 360. Also, don't cram it into those under-TV units - and dont stand it upright - because the 360 really does pump out alot of heat.

Well, there are several games I want to get for the 360, Dead Rising, already got a Viva Pinata, and the Ghostbusters game coming next year (though I'll more then likely get the latter for the PC).
Personally, you were smart about not getting one of these at launch, and hopefully Microsoft will fix it so /all/ 360's don't red-ring, and yeah, it helps to keep them ventilated and not upright as well.
I'll probably see about getting on next year, but, I'll have to wait and see how that goes.

Not at its launch price. And there were no good games at launch. Besides I never buy anything first generation. I wait until they are proven to be reliable and there is a nice range of games. Hell I havent finished playing my Xbox O games to death yet! I was in no hurry to get a 360.
I got around mine. I have a 50k unit, a fat tray loader, and a small chunk broke off of the guide track that ejects the tray. since the unit was made way back in 03 (i bought it LONG after the warrenty would have expired, Sept 05), i did a full dessect, removed the tray and top cover, and only have problems when the laser lens is dirty or the DISK is dirty.
I found out the hard way that basic cleaning maintenence must be performed on every gaming unit made in order for the units to keep working

No, Microsoft never recalled the 360 range. Instead they gave the consumers a free extended warrenty to cover the eventual Red Ring of Death. Also this is one of the new 360s with an enlarge heatsink. Again, I have it out in the open where the vents are not obsctructed and there is plenty of air circulation.
The main problem of 360 deaths is people putting them into small spaces under their tvs where there is no ventilation and the 360s cook themselves.
besides, I'm a serious gamer with a casual gamer's schedule. I dont play my 360 for hours on end so it should last for a long while.

Well I hear that is also something that contributes to red rings, however I asked Mircosoft about this problem and they said there is something wrong with the system itself basiclly indirectly stating that a 360 is a ticking time bomb. I asked game and electronic stores about this aswell and they agreed. If your system is gonna red ring it is gonna red ring.
Not exactly what you want to hear when you are on a phone with some customer service offical. -.=.-

Thats the original Xbox. And in that they didn't do a recall, they simply mailed us new power supplys with auto cut-out switches, I got one of those even though there's nothing wrong with my original power supply but the replacement one is cool, especially in brownouts.
Enough bashing the Xbox. I've been following developments of the 360 problem since they came out. Like hell I'd buy one if it fails so easily. As it is, the Xboxes original and 360 haven't done too bad for a company with no console pedigry.
The original Xbox was a nice, solid and reliable unit, though it sometimes ran hot. The only problem was they produced some Xboxes with Thompson drives. Thompson is notorious for producing rubbish. Xboxes with Samsung drives have always had good results.
The 360 mostly has an over-heating problem. It runs incredibly hot, probably from them trying to pack a PC's worth of componants into a tiny case. I wager most dead 360s are caused by continuous use and poor ventilation. The launch model does have a flaw on it somewhere but thats be rectified with the Elite model. Now the Pro 2 model should be free of that particular problem but unfortunately its still susceptable to heating problems - but that cannot be avoided considering what it's got under the hood.
From now on, consoles will start to get bigger again. When you have high-end graphic cards and CPUs in there you need massive amounts of cooling - like any PC. You canna change the laws of themaldynamics.
