As much as I'd like to take credit for the design of the back panel that's the way it was when I got it. However it was damaged with glue, nail holes.. It's still pretty damaged but it's better than what it was. The back panel is a piece od 1/8" paneling primarily with the X design overlay of paneling that's 2 different types of wood. Of which I don't know. But one on The left top and right bottom stain the same color the top right and bottom left stained a different color than the other two. Though you can't really tell in the picture.
