Hazard: Endless Training SKETCH
Concept sketch for an upcoming GIFT ARTWORK for my good friend
veyoun
Upper half:
Typical working sketch of mine; blue lines and no background.
Lower half:
Colour and shading concept for the final artwork.
The final artwork will be a traditional artwork this time. It will be a huge challange, because the whole artwork is going to show a scene at night!
Furthermore, I will colour Hazard's skin/fur in black and all the highlights will be made of "rain". The lightning flashes and the rain will give the appearance of highlights on the wet body and clothing.
Let's see how this turns out... ^^
Notes:
* This character is the anthro version of the "Hazard" pony last seen in the fictional "MLP" universe. It wasn't easy to translate a "cute pony" design into a more or less realistic anthro.
This here is the "MPL" version:

** The head design was inspired by Chris Sawyer's horse drawings.
*** Oh... and this is my very FIRST "horse anthro", I suppose! ^^

your making a minor anatomy mistake just under his armpit. The serratus anterior muscles and external obliques should look like this: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4078.....6a75e0762d.jpg
Hm... this would be correct if the view was from below. But we can see this character from above! Also, he is NOT raising his arm like in your reference.
I have used a human model (kickboxer) and it looked like this... but I may look into it when doing the clean line art. Thanks for pointing it out!

the biggest problem is that his external obliques are far too short, even from a top perspective. and the serratus anterior muscles decrease in size as they go down and they move outward from the chest gradually. A tip from me would be to use a reference for ONLY the outline sections. Do all the anatomy and muscle group parts on your own. you know enough about general anatomy to do this. This also improves your creditbility and value of YOUR work. Using a ref depletes from value. Hope I helped out
