[MUSIC] Charlie Foxtrot
My second experiment with eJay, and a fun, high-energy ode to space exploration and the many, many things that can go catostrophically wrong during the course of it.
I've mixed in various samples in tribute to some of my favourite science fiction shows, movies and franchises. I'm pleased with how this one came out; playing with the samples was a lot of fun and I think I'm even happier with the overall feel of it than my last work. Hope you enjoy!
Made using eJay 2 Special Edition - Drum 'n' Bass. Samples from Alien, Star Trek, Starcraft, Serenity, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic etc. are all copyright their respective owners and used here only in innocent and non-profit fun.

Heeeeee! I love all the sci-fi awesomeness. ^_^ You have great consistency through this one in the melody and tempo. There are two minor suggestions I'd offer to tweak it. One is the volume of the samples - lower it just a tad, particularly for the start 'cause when it cuts out, the beat and music that replaces it is very quiet by comparison. You want the beat/song to be on par or louder if possible to make it transition more evenly. Second suggestion would be adding a simple bass line to it - it seemed lacking in one, that or if there is one it was very faint and hard to make out (though... that may also because I don't exactly have hi-fi headphones at work, heh).
Was very easy to picture a happy Dory dragon dancing around to this song, white mane tossing about with a grin on his maw. ^_^

Thanks much, I'm glad you enjoyed! ^^ Good suggestions, I can see what you mean about the volume consistency. I probably should've normalized the samples or something before using them. As for bass line, I think there is something there but it's mixed up with the drums and is pretty deep down, hard to hear on smaller speakers including. There's probably room for another level in there, a more moderate bass to fill the sound out and be more audible on smaller speakers.
Again, all very good thoughts that I'll keep in mind in the future and use to refine my process. :) And the mental image you struck on, of a Doreydragon dancing around like a goofball with a big silly grin, that's pretty much the reality any time a Dorey is exposed to good electronica with the right sort of energy and flow to it. ^^

That was really cool. I think it meshed together really well, and though your stuff seems to be mainly melodic rhythm as opposed to pure melody, it works for what you're making. The beat and the rhythm mesh together nicely, and for the most part, the samples that you used fit in perfectly. The only thing that I could see that I'd suggest changing is the volume of the sample at the very beginning. Lower it a bit, and see if you can't fade it out into the music when it reaches its end, instead of it just cutting off. It'd flow much more nicely then.
Yeah, ToeClaws pointed that out too and looking back at it now I agree, it makes the transition pretty abrupt. Thanks though, I'm really glad you like it otherwise! As you say, there isn't really a set melody, so far I haven't really found a good way to do that in eJay, but I've tried to give it a sort of melodic feel to it all the same as you say. I'm glad you think it works. ^^
Thanks much for your thoughts!
