Indeed you should just draw. but Studying other artists is a great way to get ideas. Finding ways to incorporate elements that you like is all a part of discovering what makes your artwork your artwork. With this drawing I can tell you paid much attention to the form and perspective of the figure and the different elements that make it up. That is why the shading, line, and other art elements work together so well. Keep up the good work :)

There's nothing wrong with referencing other artists... just try not to copy their errors (every artist has em... even the pros.)
