Chapter 1: The Cub in the Straw Hat

Once upon a time, there was a great pirate known as Gol D. Roger. This man was known as the "Pirate King", as he had conquered every treasure, faced any foe and braved the treacherous seas of the world. During his final moments, Roger managed to inspire spirits all across the world. "My fortune is yours for the taking... but you'll have to find it first. I left everything I own in One Piece!" Ever since, pirates from all over the world set sail for the Grand Line, searching for One Piece, the treasure that would make their dreams come true.


Even now, 22 years later after Roger's execution, the age of piracy is still very much alive. Pirates from every country sail along the Grand Line, still searching for the mythical treasure of One Piece. Today, in the ocean of East Blue, a young boy starts his own journey, on his way to claim the legendary treasure for himself, and become king of the pirates.

"Hehe, who would've thought that I'd find something so cool this early?" said Axel, a 16 year old Bengal tiger who, by appearances, looked about five years old. Axel was extremely small for his age, most people mistaking him for an ordinary child. The tiger had just set out from his hometown of Foosha Village in a small fisherman's boat, with only a barrel of water, a barrel of food, two katanas, and the clothes on his back. Axel wore a light green vest with a white t-shirt underneath it, and blue pants to cover his furry diapered bottom. However, the most notable thing about his attire was the straw hat that was always atop the feline's head.

Axel continued to chuckle to himself as he looked at the marvel that was enveloping his boat: a large, violent whirlpool. "Hmm...if my boat sinks, it'll be bad 'cause I can't swim..." the tiger thought aloud, as his little boat spun round and round in the vortex. "Oh wait, even if I could swim, I would drown anyway, so it doesn't matter...hmm, what to do...?" the tiger wondered, moments before the boat sunk under the power of the whirlpool.


"Captain! There is something drifting in the water!" shouted Coby, a young canine who was a cabin boy aboard the pirate ship of Alvida. The ship was docked at a hidden shore, concealed by a small forest. Coby ran up to his captain, only to be kicked in the stomach, knocking him down to the ground.

"What...did you just call me...?" the captain said, her eyes glaring down to the whimpering dog before her. "I...said c-captain..." Coby replied in fear, as he was kicked again, this time in his side. "That's what I thought you said! You know you are to refer to me as 'The most beautiful captain in the World!!" barked the captain.

Alvida was a canine, but she was a different breed than Coby, and was vastly different in size. Where Coby was medium height and slightly chubby, Alvida was taller, and extremely overweight. Every part of Alvida's body was fat and ugly, except for her eyes, which were a pretty light brown color.

"Now, leave my presence!!" The captain barked, as Cody fled and retreated to the sleeping quarters. As the dog entered the room, he noticed his fellow crew mates crowding around a wet barrel. "Hey Coby, come help us open this up!" one of the men shouted. "Hey, what's in that thing?" Coby asked, walking over to the barrel.

Before the men could open the barrel themselves, the top of the barrel exploded open, revealing a small orange feline. "Finally! I thought I was gonna die in the sea!" Axel rawred, stretching his limbs for the first time in hours. The tiger looked around, and observed his new surroundings. "Eh? Where am I? Who are you guys?"

The other pirates stared in shock at the barrel, and couldn't believe their eyes. "We should be the ones asking you that!!" the pirates replied, as Coby stepped forward. "Who are you??" The tiger hopped out of the barrel, and stood on its rim, perfectly balanced. "My name is Axel, and I'm gonna be the next Pirate King." he said, without the slightest bit of bragging or sarcasm.

All of the pirates began to laugh at the tiger, except for Coby, who looked at him in disbelief. "You're going for One Piece?! Are you crazy?!? Every pirate in the world is going after that!! They'll kill you!!" Coby exclaimed, as Axel simply crossed his arms. "I don't care. I'll be the best pirate ever; It's my dream, so it's worth dying for." the tiger replied, and Coby could clearly see the determination in his eyes.

The conversation was cut short, as the door that led to the room, and the wall surrounding it was blown to pieces as a large, fat creature busted through with a large, spiked metal club. "What the hell's going on in here?!! What are you slackers up to?!!" Alvida barked, while all of her crew retreated to the far side of the room, except for Coby, and of course the tiger standing atop the broken barrel.

Axel looked Alvida, completely unfazed, then looked down to Coby, who was staring in fear at the large woman. "Hey, who's the fat mutt?" Axel asked, causing everyone else in the room to collapse in shock, knowing the hell that the feline had just incurred. Alvida glared at the tiger, and everyone could see the giant veins popping in her head, as she seethed with anger.

"What...did you just call me...??" Alvida asked the tiger, as she grinded her teeth back and forth. Coby looked at the metal club in his captains paw, then quickly turned to face the small feline. "Axel, repeat after me! Alvida is the--" Coby's words got caught in his throat as he recalled Axel's determination about his dream.

Coby thought about his own dream: to become a great marine that could take down bad people like Alvida. The more Coby thought about his dream, he became filled with raw determination to change his own life, and saw this to be the moment to start. "--the...Alvida is the...the meanest, fattest, ugliest person in on the seas!!!" Coby barked, making his crew mates collapse a second time.

Axel began to giggle at the comment, as Coby placed his paws over his mouth as he realized what he had said. Alvida's anger had reached its limit, and she charged forward, swinging her club down toward the two boys. Coby shrieked, while Axel appeared in front of him in a flash with a smile spread across his maw, and slashed the club away with his swords, making it smash into Alvina's face.

The overweight canine crashed backwards, completely unconscious. Axel landed on the ground in front of her, and let out a laugh. "Hehe, you can't beat me with something like that." the tiger said, walking past the canine and towards the main land. Coby looked back to his shocked crew, then to his unconscious captain, and dashed off after the tiger.


"Thank you so much for taking me with you, Axel." Coby said, following closely behind the tiger. "I'm not, you're just following me. So who are you anyway?" Axel replied, as he wandered through the forest. "My name is Coby, and I'm--well I was the navigator on Alvida's ship." Coby replied, a hint of happiness and hope in his voice. "Hmm? That was your captain? Why'd you call her fat and ugly then?"

Coby looked down to the tiger, and a wide smile spread across his maw. "Cause I never wanted to be on her ship. I want to be a great, strong marine someday." "Hmm, if you're gonna a marine, then we're gonna fight someday." Axel replied, making Coby nervous and worried. "No no no, we don't have to fight, we can just avoid each other! We don't need to be enemies--" "Of course were not gonna be enemies, dummy. We're already friends." Axel stated, leaving Coby speechless.

The two eventually wandered into a small village, where they noticed a number of people crowding around something. The boys shoved their way into the crowd, and saw that in the center was a dead feral wolf that had foam at its mouth, with a large, deep gash in its back. However, the wound wasn't even slightly bloody, but instead was charred, as if it had been lit on fire.

"What happened here??" Coby asked one of the villagers. "This wolf was the pet of Captain Morgan's son, Helmeppo. But he got out, and was loose in the village, and nearly killed my daughter, until a strange swordsman killed it." a woman said, hugging her child close to her.

"This swordsman sounds like a cool guy! Where can I find him?!" Axel asked, making the woman kneel down and place her paws on his shoulders. "You should stay away from him little boy, he's a very dangerous person." "I don't care, I'll manage. So where is he?" Axel replied.

The woman sighed, then pointed to a nearby tall building with a large courtyard surrounded by a wall. "He is in there, tied to a stake in the courtyard."

Axel and Coby ran over to the wall, quickly scaling it and peering into the courtyard. Just as the lady said, there was a man who was tied with several ropes to a wooden stake. The fur was odd looking, and was of indeterminate species. The man looked mostly like a fox with red fur, except for his tail, which bore stripes similar to a raccoon's; and his face, which had a black raccoon 'mask'.

Immediately after seeing him, Coby fell to the ground, his eyes wide with fear. "Huh? What's wrong with you?" Axel asked. "Don't you know who that is?! He's an infamous pirate hunter: the 'Half-Breed' Kawaii!!" Coby stated, making Axel grin.

"I want that guy...he's gonna be my first crew mate!" Axel replied, hopping down into the courtyard.
