The title Fifth Champion derived from Shawn's duty to the Fifth prince of the Stormbourne Royal Family. This did not, as he was wont to observe, delineate any indicator of relative skill between the five champions who guarded the five Princes. Indeed it was agreed that Shawn was the most skilled of the five at the Court of Storms despite his peculiar habit of assigning his shift-blade to the shape of a human halberd rather than claws as was traditional. Shawn simply stated that the added haft and blade lent him reach and any who had witnessed his dizzying flurry of leaping blows; cleaving multiple separate targets asunder in a whirlwind of destruction, could gainsay him. But when the Ender came to Diva not even the Fifth Champions peerless skills could stop the destructive force that had come from Beyond.
