Was heading back home from Washington and was out in the boondox at night in Wyoming, when around a curve were 3 elk heading across the road. Got stopped best as I could, but ended up into one big fellow and he ended up falling to the side onto the car.
Thankfully, he got up and wandered away, and I turned around and checked the area, 2 elk had disappeared, one was standing off a bit there. I think he was OK.. at least I do hope so. I really don't care to harm creatures unless it's for food. Sadly, however.. this was the first time I'd ever seen elk in real life... hopefully my next encounter with the animals will be a more friendly one.
Damage to back door was a previous unrelated incident where someone hit my car in a parking lot and did the whole hit-and-run thing. The core support frame got bent and busted the battery, so I had battery acid all over (and thusly all on my paws from trying to clean it up later when replacing the battery in another part of middle-of-nowhere, WY. Fortunately, a junk yard in the same town had a replacement headlight... bodywork will come later.

WY has everything, I'm sure there are wolves out there (and there are definitely bears), but they can't eat them all. I saw a number of deer further south, so there is an abundance of wildlife out there, of course, when the "big city" in that part of the world has 10K people, you are definitely out in the middle of nowhere. But it's nice and scenic... just after dark is apparently pretty risky out there.
Aye... thankfully. They are tall enough animals (in a car that size), they roll up onto the hood and easily can end up inside the car with you. Glad that wasn't the case, or I'd likely be broke down out there still... or worse... I'm glad the car was good enough I can still drive it like normal.
Thanks, Drake. Well, the frame piece that runs alongfront the radiator and condenser there is going to be no less than $700, unfortunately, but all else, I can try to find at a junk yard. Ever since I had the whole car fixed up and repainted back in '10, all kinds of little things keep happening to it. Murphy's Law never fails to intervene at the most inconvenient of times, eh?
Its funny you say that, cause its that same superstition that keeps me from ever making my car look uber nice on the outside. Cause it seems almost like fate that once you got a nice looking older vehicles, there is gonna be animals or bad drivers or careless old people in parking lots...
Sadly... but when I did that, it was after a lady hit me and insurance was paying to paint almost 1/4 of the car, so figured I should pay the difference and go ahead and repaint the whole thing. Turning out not to have paid off greatly, although there were some rusty spots that did get taken care of that could have gotten bad if left untaken care of. I'd say your car looks pretty good for its age (it'll be a classic pretty soon even). As long as you never rice your car out, I won't owe you a butt-whooping. :=8Þ
I would like the car to be my scale color metal-flake paint, but that is looking at around $4K.

Happy they were able to wander off. Just hope they weren't too batter otherwise or May end up as someone's meal anyway. And happy you were able to drive away(I would have thought that with a battery like that, you'd be stuck in the middle of nowhere). And as far as encountering elks again - Yes, next time...without the oops. ;3
Well, gal at O'Reilly's said WY law is if you hit it you can keep it (unlike here). But I'm glad he seemed OK. It was pretty weird, the battery still worked after all that. A couple of times I tested it by turning the car off and restarting it (stopped on a downhill so I could use 2nd gear to start it if I had to), and worked fine even the next day.
If you know anybody that has a 97 or compatible year Altima they are parting out, let me know (especially if it's black). If I can find parts cheap, I'm going to try to start fixing it. Hopefully nothing else goes on so I can run it to the 300K mile mark.

He seemed to walked off with no problem best as I could tell... after they were all across the road, I only saw one after I got my car turned sideways in the road where I could see off the road.. one was standing there, but I think it was one of the others. It did bend the frame, though where it hit his back leg, so I was hoping it didn't break it or anything.
That weird noise I was hearing, turns out elk normally make that sound... although after what happened, I worried it was a sound of distress.
