I'm tired, so please forgive me if it looks like crap and sounds like crap lol.
Making shields at first for me was a bit tricky, but after i watched a youtube video, all the knowledge i had before just came flowing back.
I truly hope this makes sense guys.
This is for the Front View of the Shield. Part II will focus on the side and making edits afterwards. Or into a part III -_-;
NOTE: keep in mind please, that i use Maya2013 Student Ver, so i'm not sure how other programs may function under the same steps, but i know it IS possible.

I don't use Maya, but this was done nicely stepped and stuff. :>
I like to make tutorials more DIRECT into what I'm working on so it makes the basics more easier to understand. And to outline which parts at vital in case someone misses it.
What program do you use?
And is that a bird michael jackson as your icon o_o?
I use Blender.. but at one point and time I'll try and learn Maya because the industry uses it a lot.. so when that happens I can ask you questions! :33
xDD And no that's my fursona hehehe.
Hmm, I tried using Blender (still playing around in it though), but it seems more tricker to find my way around it. I'm sure there are hot keys, right?
In maya I mainly use the left side of my keyboard to use all the functions. And a mouse :) I find it easier to really work with Maya. Also, I'm still learning myself :B
Ahhh gotcha lol.
xD I tried using Maya, I was only able to add a cube. I find THAT program tricky!
Well maya can be tricky at first.
If you want to create other model shapes, hold shift and right click(?) it'll pull up a pop up menu with all the polygon types.
