The pegasus-run weather bureau in Cloudsdale does a great job in keeping Equestria's weather under control, but sometimes you get what are known as "Rogue Storms" which are bigger, wilder or more powerful than the norm. When this happens the Royal Equestria Rogue Weather Control Team known as "The Storm-Riders" rise to the challenge.
When you fight 'Rogue Storms' there are situations where the envyroment gives you zero visibility. This is why the young Night Pony Earshot is such an invaluable member of the Storm-Riders. By far the youngest member of the team ever, Earshot has more than earned both his place on the team and the respect of his teammates. His amazing sense of hearing has pulled their collective fat out of the fire on more occasion
Earshot is the first Night Pony to 'officially' leave his subterrainian home of Stygian Cove. When Nightmare Moon was sent to the moon, the Night Ponies fearing blind 'retribution' by the daylight ponies, retreated from socity and went into hiding for the last one thousand years. Their memory becoming little more than legend and old mare's stories as creatures of darkness and shadow. Earshot was sent forth by the Dark Council and the city elder Moonlight Sonata as an emmisary of sorts, to set his best hoof forwards and show Daylight Ponies that they do exist, but are nothing to fear.
Although initially frightened by his daunting task, Earshot has in insatable curiosity about the world under the sun, and takes immense joy in life in general. Most ponies find him disturbing to meet at first (bat-wings, Cat-Eyes and all) but it's hard not to like him.
Earshot comes from a story that Werekitty http://www.furaffinity.net/user/werekitty39501/ and I have been working on. "The Sour Grapes Chronicles" http://www.fimfiction.net/story/710.....pes-Chronicles follows the life and adventures of the owner of a modest Vineyard across from Sweet Apple Acres. Often she reacts to the events of the main series and has her own little adventures that happen "off-camera".
Ever since I saw the episode Luna Eclipsed I have loved the idea of these nocturnal ponies as a sub-species of Pegasus. Somewhere along the way between Werekitty and myself we began developing a history and a home for these creatures, a mildly tragic bit of backstory which hopefully keeps them interesting. Earshot's special talent is listening, and on a good day he can hear probably all of Ponyville from Sweet Apple Acres. His voice is equally flexable and is a wonder to hear during Kareoke night.

Whoops.
Guess when I copy and pasted some of the material I wound up copying and pasting just the abbreviation of the link instead of the actual full link.
