This is very poignant. I can't agree with it, because for me, working for commissions keeps me drawing constantly, and it feels so good to produce, and to make progress. I do, however, completely understand the pressing desire to express something that simply wont transfer from your mind to your paper.
I'm so looking forward to when my husband gets a job, and I am going back to school. I enjoy freelancing... I enjoy making money with something that I feel I am pretty good at, but making ends meet? That's stressful... and almost no one here, or on other art sites, wants to pay what companies will pay for book covers, magazine covers or article pieces. A vast majority here does not believe in freelancing; they just want art of their character, and they want it cheap or free, and they want it to look good. Then when you finally finish it, all you get is a meek thank you, if that... It's really strange how freelancing has changed over the years. While I sit here with my throbbing wrist, I wonder if I will ever look back and think it was worth my time.
Lovely painting as always. You inspire me!

Anything you are passionate about shouldn't be made into a full time profession... for that very reason. If you do something to make a living, it will always be a chore and money driven. There can't be any fun in it because you're always doing it for other people and the number of people to pay you to have fun is kinda limited: they want results. This holds true not only for art but for everything you could possibly do to make money, I've seen it happen all too often. Not saying that you cannot make money with something you are passionate about, but it shouldn't be your own source of income. As long as it's a "bonus" kind of thing that you aren't depending on... it can still be fun because you can pick whatever customer and commission you actually like.
It'll totally won't be!
There's a sucker born each secound.
The latest fasion is: "Your char here"
The suckers pay for an artist to finish a pron drawing using their characters paying way more than they would for a full comission. and the artist profit from both suckers.
and the suckers don't realize that they're paying double for a thing that belongs to the others.
Before this fashion, the artists asked about $100 for a two character comission,
With this they can get 2 suckers to pay more than $300 each and the suckers don't have anything they can really relate too...
They can't even say "look a picture of me and my boyfriend!" it's more like "Look, a picture of me... and.... a loathsome dragon with multiple genitals"
It's profitable! :)
People so dumb that make me laugh at their disgrace.
Good artists going completely ignored
Oportunists getting an obscene lot of money for simple porn.

Unfortunately things are like that, the art created on these days do not come by passion, but by the need for money. Just do not forget why you learned to draw or you will start to hate what it was ones driven by passion. Anyways, nice work, the drawing express and tells the way you feel.
