Thought just for fun lets catch up on our stellar knowlege of the univers.


"While dragons may belong to the realm of fiction, you can glimpse one of these magical monsters for yourself in the starry heavens this month. Riding halfway up the northwest sky, Draco, the dragon covers a large chunk of celestial real estate as it coils around the North Star and the small constellation of Ursa Minor (the Little Bear).

While the constellation is best seen away from the city, the easiest part of Draco to hunt down from suburbs is its head. Marked out by four stars in a shape of an irregular rectangle, its head is about half the size of the Big Dippers bowl.

The faintest of the four reveals itself to be pretty a double star in binoculars. Located about 120 light years away, both stars shine about 11 times brighter than our own Sun and are only 345 billion kilometers apart. More than seven thousand years ago the Sumerians called this stellar dragon Tiamat - the keeper of the primeval darkness."
