My CRS arrived today :-D This is the first time I've ever ordered animals online/received them in the mail. I was impressed with the packing. They are so adorable, even cuter in person! I got 4 SS grade shrimp, they're all double hinomaru, some no entry. Not sure the ratio of no entry vs regular, I'd have to look again at each one.
The tank they are in used to have red cherry shrimp and a trio of galaxy rasbora, but they have been moved to their own tanks (3 tanks total, one for CRS, one for RCS, and one for GR. That's just my nano tanks :P)

these little shrimpies are so cute! really pretty too! I just recently started with my own little colony of ghost shrimp(one is pregnant!). Though i'm unsure what's the best way to clean my tank, now that i have shrimps and a mystery snail. I want to eventually add the grass to the cage, but i would love to know, how do you clean your tank without disturbing the plants growth as well as keeping the bottom feeders happy.
Oh man. Cleaning shrimp tanks can be a little tricky, especially if you have babies. Normally in any other fish tank, I'd just use a regular large tube to siphon out water and suck up waste from the bottom. But in my little shrimp tanks (especially tanks with babies), I often just gently mix up the stuff at the bottom with a toothbrush or other small tool, then scoop out cupfuls of water to dump. This tank has an aquaclear 20 filter on it, with a sponge covering surrounding the bottom of the tube so no one gets sucked up.
I recently tried using a smaller piece of tubing (airline tubing, that you'd use for an airstone) to suck up excess junk at the bottom. It did a pretty good job. Didn't get up everything, and actually it did suck up two tiny baby shrimp. But I fished them out of the waste bucket and put them back in the tank before I dumped the water.

oh! good idea :D I'll try the small tubing and siphon out what i can, as well as toothbrush the base, like you said. I am hoping the snail will help clean up any excess that i miss(maybe, then again the snail makes messes too). thanks for the help!
also, glad you saved your babies! that would be awful to loose them. I'm a little weary on using a filter for them, considering most have strong currents. Also, do you ever use a bubbler in the tank? or do plants usually produce enough oxygen in the water that it's not necessary.
