In all the times I have gone to the Capital I always had wanted to see Teddy Roosevelt Island, but I never could find time to make the trip. Is the island pretty nice, and is it worth a trip to see it?

I've lived in DC for 10 years and this was my first time, but I think it's worth a trip, yeah. A bit more crowded than I expected, but the weather was good. And ya can find solitude, actually, if ya explore enough.

It's kind of odd, really - ya're on a pretty wild/natural island, but the sound of airplanes and cars is never far away since the island lies near an airport and highways. And ya can see the city on either bank of the Potomac. But it's a bit of a refuge from all that.

The memorial itself is nice, but I'm not a terribly great judge of those.

Lots of birds. I saw mallards, cormorants, two great blue herons, and a bunch of different songbirds, including grackles, blackbirds and many others. Others have seen various birds of prey, but I didn't happen to.

I'll be posting a few more photos over the next day or two, so take a look at those if ya'd like.

Wow, thanks for all of the information, and I will definitely have to check out Teddy Roosevelt Island the next time I am in the capital.

It makes sense that the island is surrounded by all sorts of activity be it aeroplanes and cars kind of like how Central Park is in New York City. It is neat that the island is a refuge because there is no question that D.C. can be pretty congested.

That is great that there are a lot of birds on the island, and I am sure it is a great place for bird watchers. It would have been neat to have seen an eagle on the island because that would be the perfect for Washington, D.C.!

I will definitely check out your other photographs, and I appreciate the tips about the island.
