Beneath the Ashes
A unique, first time picture in this style. This was a bit similar to what I was hoping to accomplish with this macro pic: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8771371/ only with snow.
I couldn't get that one to work, but this one seemed to come out just fine.
This was entered in a DeviantArt contest which was themed to illustrate a Pokemon showing its Pokedex entry. Volcarona's in particular I used was:
When volcanic ash darkened the atmosphere, it is said that Volcarona's fire provided a replacement for the sun.
I picked an ash theme based on a curious novel I saw in our store's inbox to try and sell called Ashfall, a post-apocalyptic novel about the eruption of Yellostone Supervolcano.
I managed to win the contest. Some might think its no big deal I won, but it is to me. The last time I can recall winning any art competition was three I won in short succession in the summer of 2007 all revolving around being one of the first artist to really capitalize on the concept of Leafeon having fall colors and different tree leaves. Its been that long. Been decimated in most any competition since then. ._. And I didn't exactly win this one with flying colors either.
But a win is a win. Now I get to have a short time feature on one of the largest Pokemon groups on DeviantArt, despite the group being a bit in decline.
As for this Prismacolor pencil theme on black paper, I would like to do more with it in the future.
