This image makes me miss my former favorite spots to hike and explore in the Mojave desert. Well, in the spring and early summer at least.

inspired by the part of the world i've finally since moved to: nevada. i lived up here in the early 70s and still wandered around out here a lot until i went up north in 77. finally got back up here a couple of months ago. winter is cold but i don't mind that. been wanting to get out of the california central valley for more then a decade and finally got around to it. we're gonna have a furcon (BLFC) up here the beginning of may. nice thing about relatively dry is temperature, high or low, doesn't feel as oppressive. of course that can be dangerous to not notice, but its also, i feel so much healthier and more relaxed. the whole basin and range base elevation is above 4,000ft. i think where i am in sparks is somewhere between 5k & 6K ft. i forget exactly. even though its still city air with car crap in it, it feels better too me then down in the valley.

Oh my gosh. I'll bet the skies are spectacular on those Desert Winter nights.

well right now i'm in town, but yes i've seen them and you're absolutely right. at one time i did work at night in a remote area of the state and the night sky was absolutely amazing. as were the songs of the yotes who would respond back and forth when i would join in. that was a very special time, place and experience to me.
