A commission for
Goldfur, a crew portrait of the ship from his new stories, the Phoenix.
From left to right, the characters are: Ceres (Starwalker foxtaur), Loander (Faleshkarti), Risha DeMar (4 armed cougar), Madeline Cottonfield (holographic rabbit), Shintaro (samurai fox), M'Rarrtikar (caitian), Captain Martin Yote (coyote), Bethany Oakwood (vixen), Chakat Hotfoot, Anastasia Tartikova (siberian tiger), Penny Windsor (mouse), R'Murran (caitain), Danson (foxtaur). Whew! I'm told that this isn't even the entire crew ^^
The art was done on 11"x17" illustration board, with fluid acrylic paints.

Yes, it's a novel. See my website - http://www.chakatsden.com/chakat/St.....Phoenix-1.html
Sooo cool Kacey, I can only imagine how much time went into this. Just drawing that many characters together, to scale, has got to be crazy tough.
Do you do bulk pricing for a commission like this? Just curious. If not, maybe I should be pursuing a different career... XD
Awesome pic!

Dang, that's tremendously well done!
Being the purser on that ship must be a real heck of a job, thank god for replicator technology. Cripes, can you IMAGINE trying to keep even simple things in sufficient quantities for replacements, etc for a crew with that much diversity? Just uniform blouses alone would be a tremendous challenge. In the one picture here, there are at LEAST five different cuts (Male - Captain, Male - Crew, Female - 2 arms, Female - 4 arms, Robe style) as well as a very wide range of sizes.

^\_/^ I honestly say this is simple beautiful Kacey, I really do love it hon!
And I can only guess how frustrating doing a transparency with acrylic is, but I think that as well turn out really well.
Also with it being a non-militarily ship, with a smallish crew, one can think it as a, very expensive party space yacht.
or a cargo ship, either works.
(Also last note, that is a VERY fancy civi ship, I would of expected something out of battlestar X3)
Anywho, keep up the amazing work!

all i can think of is a conversation between celise waan and kaj nevis, while waiting for haviland tuff to show up, on about the third page of the opening scene of the plague star, from tuff voyaging (by george martin, published in 1986). where she mentions she has a niece who serves with captain noah wakerfuss, of the world of bargans.
Terrific job on the pic Kacey. Would love to get a full pic of Risha the four-armed cougar done by you someday myself to go with the other pics that were done of her for me (as she's my character that I've let Goldfur use for the Pheonix stories). I'd have to save up though, but your art is wortth saving up for.
Yup Missing crew 1 Faleshkarti Preiseth, Another Amur tiger Valentina, R'Murran's other caitian mates, Burningbright and Zelkie Chakats, and depending on where you are in the time line Heywood and Menalippe human, ferret, or Darkwave and Roo Skunktaur and kangaroo. But other wise nice
Thanks. I always meant to read through those in order, but one of the early stories in the main Forest Tails sequence shocked my poor (then) sexually innocent brain, and it's been hard getting back in. Come to think of it, that was 10 years ago (fuck, has it been that long?!) about when college textbooks killed my reading habit...
I'd advise also reading at least the Folly stories and The Last Straw/Family Affair on top of Forest Tales et.al.
You don't need to read Star Dancer yet[1], but things are nearing that point.

What's unusual is that Star Dancer was finished.
John Plunkett has a tendency to start writing a story. It will have engaging characters and an interesting plot and you really want to know what happens next...
...then he hits an adamantium writer's block and it never gets finished.

This looks positively gorgeous, and actually rekindles the flame of my passion for going back and writing my own stories. If I'm fortunate, perhaps I will be able to commission something like this from you featuring my characters (once I introduce some more and such). ^_^
Excellent work! I adore the look and feel of this piece. You did an amazing job on this!
