A recently unearthed treasure from my checkered artistic past!
             This is 'TOONS FROM THE TOMB , circa 1994-96 , created during the period when I was drawing THE FLINTSTONES for Archie comics. This was my first serious attempt to create an original comics series of my own. Inspired by the work I'd done drawing COUNT DUCKULA for Marvel,my idea in creating this comic was to combine the classic horror and Science fiction movies I loved with an ensemble cast of Looney Tunes/Disney style characters and broad,slapstick humor. The setting was a run-down hotel in Transylvania called "The Walled-off Asphyxia",and the gags revolved around the weird creatures who ran the place and the even weirder guests. It was basically "Fawlty Towers" with Vampires,Werewolves and ghosts. 'TOONS FROM THE TOMB ran for a couple of years in a wonderful nostalgia themed magazine called MODEL AND TOY COLLECTOR which is sadly no longer around.

                    I don't remember if I saw Count Duckula and that female seductress used in Duck Tales...and I can't help but shake the feeling nearly the same design for that brain character was used in Captain N as Mother Brain...freaky O.o;
I simply would'nt have such patience putting so much detail on so many characters on one picture ^^; you definately have my kudos for that

                    Thanks! ^ ^......No...His name is Baron Ludwig Von Biteoffen. He was even more of a hapless Vampire than Duckula ( if that's possible )....I remember naming the Girl Duck Magenta,after a character in The Rocky Horror picture show . Unfortunately,I didn't do enough strips for her to make an appearance,but I remember that I was going to use her as my version of a "Tex Avery Girl". In other words,she would show up randomly and look sexy while every Male character around her would basically lose their minds over her.
            Although there is obviously a strong Disney/Looney Tunes(leaning more towards Disney) influence in my character designs,and the character types are based on classic Universal style monsters,'TOONS FROM THE TOMB was entirely my own creation. Actually,I had originally wanted to create a comics series featuring Uncle Scrooge's nemisis,Magica De Spell. She was one of my favorite Carl Barks characters,and she was originally meant to be the star. I submitted the idea to Disney,but they rejected it :( , so I decicded to rework the concept,sans actual Disney characters,and that's how 'TOONS FROM THE TOMB came to be.
