Actually, it's a tribute to Hoppy himself--he was an actual character in the Capt. Marvel universe! I think he only appear in "Funny Animal" comics, I don't think he ever actually appeared in the "real" world. But it's hard to say...they used to do some pretty goofy things back in the Golden Age!

Not in the Golden Age, but in the 1980s DC did a story in which Hoppy met Superman and Captain Marvel.

Just as long as you don't color him. I found some old Funny Animal comics and Hoppy was pink! And it wasn't a flattering pink, either.

Thanks! And why not pink--it worked for the Panther. What's worse is that there was also a character that came along much later called "Thunderbunny", who I can only imagine was an attempt to do a mainstream comics rip-off of Hoppy. It was a human boy who became a big, bulky superhero, but with a pink bunny head. It was drawn in a realistic style...except for the big pink bunny head. Yipes.

In and of itself, there's nothing wrong with pink. But when paired with a red costume, Hoppy just looked like a smear on the page except in close-up.
