The full-sized profile picture for Tembe as he appears on the homepage banner for my website, RipRoarRex's Realm, following its 2012 relaunch last week.

It is small wonder this was the infamous profile picture that drove me to near insanity as documented by my journal entry in September. Tembe is surely the most complicated of all my character designs - largely owing to his multiple pieces of personal decoration, at least one portion of which I always forget in my drafts. And combined with my inexperience drawing felines, I had an artist's recipe for 'one of those days'.
I still struggle with feline faces, especially from the front or three-quarter angles like this, but I wanted to try and improve upon my previous efforts by giving him a more realistic and mature-looking face. A nightmarish five hours of trying (and failing) to draw just that face followed, and although I eventually settled for this result, I was never fully convinced by its accuracy. I'm also unhappy with the way his torso doesn't seem to line up properly with his legs, but I could only be bothered with so much futile fiddling before calling it a day.
As I've said before, Tembe's costume was the product of improvisation rather than knowledge, so I don't really know what some portions are supposed to be or how they work - I just think they look nice. And again, I prefer to give his sandals just the one single strap across the width, even if it's a little unusual. Indeed, most of Tembe's design here remains largely unchanged from his first image, with the exception of his eyes, which I decided to make more cat-like.
