My, you're having a conversation I've wanted to discuss for so many years.
It's a matter of opinion, if you have one, I guess.
I myself have to say I have a specific "taste in music" as I am far from liking the mainstream radio music, modern electronica, things like that. I do plainly know I like metal, and most genres of metal. I do however listen to other genres, but I prefer to go by the "I don't like" not "This whole genre is shit" if you know what I mean, thus having a taste. Basically, my argument is that to have I taste, you must a preference, if you have no preference, you have no taste-- It's like a negative insult, because it's not bad.

I suppose that's a good way to put it but sometimes my tastes change depending on my mood

drawin' music, drivin' music, cleanin' music, etc

Likewise, I have music for different moods and situations too. If I drive while listening to heavy grunge metal, I'm going to be drifting around corners like a lunatic, I much prefer hard rock alternative when driving. God I love music.
