Chapter one: A different kind of school, a different kind of species.
Where Jackals are not allowed.
“Jax? Got everything packed?” Was audible from downstairs. My mom was helping me pack for this special kind of college I attended too, and surprisingly they took me in. Why was this such a surprise? Well it is a wolf-specie only school. I smiled a bit as I stood in front of my mirror, my suitcase stuffed with clothes, games, books and writing blocks. On my other side was another smaller bag, it contained my laptop and every accessory I had for it. As I looked in the mirror I saw a young jackal, aged 18 dressed in formal clothes to give a good impression to his new school where he would live for four years. My hair was short and spikey as it always had been. He turned around to look if his clothes did suit him before he grabbed both backs and walked to the stairs to head to the living room. As he stood on the last step his mother stood in front of him and smiled from ear to ear.
“Look at you , like a mature jackal in that suit!” She smiled even more and pulled the taller boy in a hug. “Ngh.. Mom! My suit…” Despite as it was his own mother, he wasn’t fond of hugs. She let go of the boy and ruffled through his hair “Ok, ok sorry my son. Are you packed and ready? We have to go” She pointed at her watch as it said it was ten to seven. Yes it was early but the ride would take around two hours. Jax yawned softly and nodded, heading to his front door with his backpack and suitcase, opening the front door and turned around. He wouldn’t see this house for a couple of months. Maybe in the upcoming vacation but nothing was sure yet. He gave a soft sigh as he was used to live with his mother in this little house. His mother opened the car door and smiled, Jax thanked her in a fashioned way and chuckled before sitting down. His mother sat down in front of the steering wheel and turned up the radio, some random top 50 song was playing as she started the engine, driving towards the highway.
How would this new school go? It was a college for media, art and game industry, Jax attended for the game development. He wondered how the school was, how the students were, the teachers, most of all how the lessons were. With these thoughts he felt his eyes starting to get heavy, closing them . He dozed off into a deep sleep, snoring through the whole ride as he didn’t had a great night rest. Moving from his house, his mom, his friends was a whole new experience, he was afraid he couldn’t handle it but then his mother and friends cheered him up , telling him he would meet many other new friends. He wondered if the students were being nice to him, he started to worry about it as it woke him up from his sleep. “Mom? Is it really ok for me to go to this school?” He looked at her as his ears were tucked back in his ears, feeling slightly cold. She sighed and shook her head “Look Jax, remember we had the talk with the principle? He said it was fine.” She smiled and rubbed his shoulder, Jax just nodded and dozed off in sleep again. After as small sleep he felt how the engine got killed, opening his eyes and yawning loudly as he got up directly looking around. “Is this it?” He looked around as they stood still in a car lot, It looked more like a car park in a mall or something than a college. His mother nodded and looked at him “Yes son, now let’s go.” She stepped out and Jax followed her, grabbing his luggage as they walked to the stairs which lead to the upper level. As they went through the door of the garage his eyes fell wide open, eye in eye with a huge towering building, on each sides were two smaller towers which both had two long wings against them. Was this really a college? How many students were there? How many classrooms where there? He felt so tiny as they walked towards the main entrance, in the middle was a long walkway, on the sides green fields and fountains, park benches and picknick tables. As they walked closer and closer to the entrance he saw how big it actually was, It must have been over 20 stores high. He looked around as it was very quiet, only a few older people were walking around, he wondered if that were students too but didn’t thought too long about it before walking inside the tower.
He was now in a sort of loby, on the walls where computer screens showing the news of the school and classes, in the middle of the lobby was an information desk with a woman sitting behind it. He looked at his mother as she just nodded, they walked to the desk as the woman looked up “Yes? How can I help you?”. She had a friendly smile, her glasses just on the tip of her snout. “Yes well, I’m new here and I was wondering where I had to go for the introduction?” He handed a letter he got from school which said he had to give this to the information desk. She just smiled and nodded “Take the elevator to the tenth floor, which is also the ball-room floor” She pointed to the back of the lobby as there were six elevator doors. They walked to the elevators as he pressed a button, a small ping sound was heard as the door on his left opened, stepping in and pressing on the number 10. Quickly the doors closed as the elevator launched upwards, reaching tenth floor in no time. “Wow, That’s fast” Jax laughed softly as he liked how modern the building was with all the electronics around him. He followed the arrows which lead to the ball-room, once there he saw a tall wolf standing in front of the door. He stopped them and smiles friendly “Good day, only students allowed after this point ” Jax shrugged and turned to his mother. “I’ll keep contact mom” She shrugged and gave him a hug “Good luck and tell me how it is ok?” She let go of him and walked back to the elevator, Jax looking after her before stepping into the room.
The room was crowded, filled with seats taken by wolves. It really was an all-wolf school, He felt different now and found a seat next to a wolf who was talking with his friend. Suddenly he turned around and looked at me, I smiled in response as he gave a growl “Hmpf..No wolf, no chat” he turned his head again as Jax just blinked. Talking about rude!, he shrugged it off and focused on a big white screen, A man came up front behind a pillar with a microphone. He must be the headmaster or someone important, he wore a uniform with a wolf symbol on his shoulder. He coughed a few times before speaking loudly into the microphone “May I have your attention new students? ” The room started to get quiet as he started to talk again “Welcome to the College of Media, Art and Dance, also known as the AMD College. This week is all about getting introduced about the lessons, teachers, rules and everything about the school. Today will be an easy one and we give you the possibility to explore the school yourself a bit”. Jax smiled as this might be a good opportunity to meet some fellow students, maybe making some friends, friends who didn’t cared he was a jackal though. He hoped not every wolf was like the one next to him. “At the end of the day you all will be called back for the dorm rooms which are located on the west wings.” As He kept explaining we learned that the lower west wing was first years, upper west wing second, lower east third years and upper east fourth years. He also learned that there were special dorms on the two outer towers which were for special classes. As the man, who was indeed the headmaster walked off stage the students got up one by one, forming little groups. As Jax wasn’t good in making groups he blindly walked around before deciding the groups were made by people who knew each other. He sighed as he walked out of the ballroom, exploring the school by himself. It wasn’t the best introduction start he knew but maybe it would turn better. As he took the elevator to the lowest floor he started to explore the halls. The classrooms were bigger than any average one, as he kept wandering around he started to forgot where he came from, eventually some students came out of a classrooms. They looked older than him, taller than him, He decided to keep his head focused on the ground, walking past them and hoping they wouldn’t stop him. Suddenly he felt a hand on his shoulder and Yelped softly, ears perked up as he turned around, losing balance and falling on the floor. In front of him stood a wolf, just a tad taller than him, he laughed, not the mean way but the friendly way. “Hey you shouldn’t be here you know, this is the east wing, third and fourth graders!” He laughed as he held out his paw. Jax looked at it and grabbed it, feeling pulled up again as he gained balance, looking at the ground and mumbling softly “O-oh…S-sorry I got l-lost. ” He chuckled and nodded “Well now, let’s get you to your dorm, follow me! ”He smiled as he grabbed Jax by his arm, walking to the elevators again. Jax blushed and blindly followed this spontaneous wolf, waiting for the elevator to come down as the wolf stood in front of me .“So, What’s your name?” Jax looked up and blinked “J-Jax, and you?”. Another laugh escaped his muzzle as he winked “Call me Zack and don’t stutter so much, I’m not going to harm you in any way ” The elevator door opened as he walked in, waiting for me to step in as I followed, waiting against the wall. “So. I bet you have good grades huh? Seeing you’re not a wolf and all hehe.” Jax just nodded and at the ground “What is your major?” As Zack kept asking him things he started to feel more comfortable “Media, what about you?”. Zack smiled and leaned against the walls right across Jax. Jax had a clear view of the wolf, average build, hazelnut brown eyes, medium long , dark brown hair. “Dance all the way!” He laughed excited as the elevator door opened again, tenth floor, where the introduction was. Zack walked to the ballroom as the headmaster was there with some other people. Zack walked to the headmaster and smiled happily “Theodor! Got a lost student here.” He brought Jax closer, who just blushed “I ehh, ahh..Everyone had a group and ehh I didn’t” His ears lowered as Zack shrugged “Yep and then I found the lost jackal on the east wing ” Zack continued. “I was wondering if you could give him his keycard already, I’ll show him his room ” Zack offered as he walked to the headmaster. Theodor, the headmaster nodded as he grabbed a keycard from out a drawer “Room W1-7” He gave the black-green keycard to Jax who grabbed it in his paw, smiling “Thank you sir” The headmaster nodded as Zack turned around “Now follow me I’ll show you the way” The jackal happily followed him. Soon they reached the lower West wing, Zack slid the keycard over the electric lock and opened the door for him. “Here you go Jax! I have to go now, but I’m sure we’ll see each other another day!” The wolf smiled and walked off, leaving the jackal alone again. I grabbed my luggage and walked in, putting it down next to my bed as I sat on it, thinking of what just happened. A small smile appeared as this first day wasn’t that bad after all. What would happen tomorrow? The questions started to fill my head again as I laid down, staring at the ceiling. Eyes feeling heavy, unable to keep them up I closed them with the idea of just staying awake. I felt myself getting lighter before dozing off into a deep sleep until late in the night.
