I've always been amazed how women can tell when another woman is pregnant, just as some dogs can. Dogs I can see, as they have an excellent sense of smell. But I wanted to make this chapter a bit of a happy surprise, and felt the only way to do that properly is to have Aurora spoil the ruse. This is Aurora's first appearance as a voice. Dipper's reaction is borrowed from Charlie Brown's reaction to finding out that Sally was born.

He mentioned in an earlier chapter that when two divergent species mate it's very rare that their is a child but that if their is a child it would just take after one of the species instead of being a hybrid (if I am remembering correctly.) Of the top of my head I want to say it's the chapter where Star takes Bobby to go see the Whales...
When Birch confronted Aurora about Sara's condition and how she wasn't at all concerned... I just knew that it was great news after all! Whew-wee! Pregnancy... Always a shocker and a celebration.
