The first still life of my Introductory Painting Class The first oil painting I ever did….ugh. My professor refused to teach us how to use oil paints and also refused to let us sketch the still life on the canvas first, both of which totally put me out of my comfort zone. Also we could only use black, white, and a color of our choice. I chose the ever-garrish (and toxic) cadmium red. Man I hated this painting at first. I was just so mad!
But then, something just fit into place, and I started actually liking oil paint. Now almost I year later there isn’t anything I’d rather paint in. The painting didn’t turn out totally bad either (If I cared enough I’d go back and fix that metal vase, probably the worst part of the painting) It was a struggle, but it paid off in the end.
