Now this is something that came up after posting the Commission picture I did for
pyrohawk.
Someone asked me if I did a 3D model of the character before drawing and if I did, how much did I do. I only did the tail in 3D as it was faster and easier to do. The question did bring up an interesting thought: What would a 3D base of the character look like?
So I head on over to Zbrush and started sculpting away for a number of hours. This would have been used as a mannequin for the drawing I did. Just enough detail there to show me where everything is and where to put it.
Might have over done it with the back muscles though. Ah well

Very nice! Thanks for sharing! I'd kinda guessed you had some 3D model rigged, but heh, forgot that Zbrush is easier for people who just want something like this in one pose from different views. This could still be baked onto a lower poly model! Have you ever tried Blender? I really recommend it if you ever want to get more into 3D. If you don't feel like getting more into it, but still want 3D stuph, let me know! I study the stuff for a living.
Well, high-poly isn't always better. In games you'd not see the amount of polys we have in this model, only a lot of fancy normal maps and suchlike. But either way, I think you'd like Blender, as it's free and light-weight. I've yet to discover something I can't do in Blender that can be done in 3DS Max (sister-product to Maya). Also, Blender has some fancy sculpting tools for whenever you decide to go nuts with subsurface division or high-poly models. Here be a link; http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/
If you've anything to ask about the program, feel free to ask me! Though I recommend looking through these; http://cgcookie.com/blender/categor.....tting-started/ CGcookie.com offers some great tutorials for free.
