The whirling sound of the Tardis made Cebonar smile holding onto the steel railing as what could be called a spaceship tried to land. The Doctor ran around the control panel doing what could be called as weird as he bashed buttons with a hammer and cranked a large dial to land the Tardis. Land was finally found as they both almost lost their balance, keeping still just in case something else would happen.
"So what planet do you think we are on now?" She asked as she bit her lip in excitement. The Doctor smiled and stood up straight, looking between the door and her. "Let's find out!" He said as they both bolted for the door, hitting each other as the burst through the opening. "Wow." Cebonar said as her jaw almost hit the floor as they both looked out.
The planet had miles and miles of sapphire grass on rolling hills with crystal flowers flowing like rivers, even the Doctor was a bit taken back by the beautiful sight. The sky was a very soft blue with a very gentle light making everything shine. They stepped out and closed the Tardis behind them. Cebonar reached down to pick a flower, admiring the crystal petals and the way they made a rainbow on her fur. "This place is so beautiful." she said breathlessly as she looked over the rolling hills.
The both sat down and watched the cloudless sky with smiles and quiet sighs of relief. They had almost fallen asleep on the soft blue grass before something was amiss. The Doctor was the first to quickly sit up and watched as almost instantaneously the light disappeared. Cebonar scrambled to her feet and watched as the flowers around her seem to almost shrivel as they shrunk to half their size. Even the one she was holding had closed itself into a bud.
They both looked at each other as the field became pitch black but began to run as a scream echoed through the land. The Doctors long brown trench coat flying back as he ran with all his might, Cebonar doing her best to keep up with him as they raced across the darkness. She couldn't see the hoof in front of her face but the heavy heart beats and stomping lead her well enough.
As they ran over a larger hill they both stopped to look down at a town softly glowing with the sound of a beast snarling filling the alleys. The Doctor was breathing hard but continued his run with his companion by his side. They slid to a stop at the bottom of the hill and caught a running little girl. "What's going on?" Cebonar asked as she tried to calm the crying child down. "W-we have to get inside!" She whined as she broke their grip and kept running.
Both the Doctor and Cebonar looked around the barren town, the very loud snarling could be heard in every part but no beast was found. They barely noticed the time flying away as they were still looking for the beast. The snarling had stopped and soon, just like the first time, the sun appeared and the flowers brightened up again making the field beautiful again. They waited in silence as heads slowly began peeking out of their houses. Once more a loud scream was heard and the Doctor took off for the center of the small town. When they arrived a small crowd had gathered around a body on the ground.
The Doctor walked closer and ignored the murmuring behind him. He didn't need to check for pulse as the mans throat was hollowed out leaving just the skin and the skeleton behind. Every muscle had almost been drained out of his body leaving a shell behind. He stepped back with a frown and looked at the crowd of human like creatures. "Can anybody tell me what happened?" He called out looking around as they avoided his eyes and looked down staying silent.
The people where like the planet in the way that they had a human like body but large clear wings with a slight sparkles were set on their shoulders. They had square like ears and their hair was thin and braided, tied back with the crystal flowers around them. They were mostly different variations of a soft brown making them stand out in the blue world. Cebonar took notice as quite a few of them stared at her, finding her most odd looking, some people even looking afraid.
"What are these creatures Doctor?" She asked as he had pulled out his sonic screw driver and held it over the body, taking a confused look at it. "Galthraxes, they are where humans got the ideas for fairies." He said without looking away. "However I've never heard of them having a predator." He said quickly standing up and looking around.
Cebonar took the information in and silently tried to pronounce the species name. "So they are peaceful then?" She asked as she stuck close to his side. "Of course, they are strict vegetarians, which is why it's so confusing as to why they are being hunted down. The villagers quickly dispersed without notice as once again it turned to night. "What on earth is with the time here?" She asked as she was back to being virtually blind.
"Excellent! I thought it was just me." He said with a smile that she didn't have to see to know it was there. He began going through the tiny village, the soft glow from each house barely lighting their path. He knocked on every door but only one opened, with a small little girl. "Hello there, I'm the Doctor, who might you be?" He asked with a bright smile, crouching down to her level . She hid half her body behind the door as she looked down at her feet. "Yauma." She peeped before her mother appeared. "Get away from the door!" She whispered as she shooed her child away from the door. "What do you want?" She asked looking around outside and keeping the door relativity closed.
As the Doctor sat across the table from Cebonar he smirked when he watched her investigate some of the things around them, very odd objects she assumed were eating utensils, a very weird looking knife and an out of place shield like object in the middle of the table. They looked up at the Mother making some hot drinks out of spices she hand picked right in front of them, the plants growing from the ceiling. She looked over at them and sighed, bringing the drinks over.
"So what is going on around here?" he asked as she held her cup tightly and didn't look either of them in the eyes. Her wings closed behind her making it seem like she had none at all. "We have very short days here but we never used to fear the night. But now out of no where our fellow kinsmen have been found dead the same way, in the same place. Then we the howls began and now it happens every Lunar Turn."
The Doctor ran his hands through his hair and thought for a moment. "That doesn't make any sense though, this planet doesn't have any dangerous beasts." He pondered over it as Cebonar took a sip of the drink. She felt her stomach clench tightly and did her best to not choke as she carefully spit the drink back into the cup. The taste wasn't just foreign, it was disgusting, she wasn't sure if it'd ever leave her mouth as it burned her tongue.
As day light broke once more they set out, the Doctor eager to find this beast. "I've figured that the day shifts every half hour and which means we have 15 hours before the beast strikes again." He said as he stumbled over a few of his words as he went through the calculations several times in his head. "Well let's not waste time, I say we head to the murder scene." She said with a nod as they both arrived on the scene.
They were both confused as they found the area gently filled with a small crowd, some peddling their wares while others just carrying baskets of the crystal flowers. They couldn't find any trace that there had been a murder and nobody seemed to remember it either. Close to where the incident happened was a rickety well with a weak rope thrown beside it.
The Doctor dropped to his knees and held his ear to the ground, knocking in several places before letting out a giant "Ah ha!" Cebonar looked slightly confused and looked tapped her hoof against the ground. "What did you find Doctor?" she asked as he pulled out his sonic screw driver once more and crawled over the area, the whirling sound of the screwdriver changing every so often.
"This isn't brick like the rest of the town, it's metal and last time I checked there is no source of metal on this planet." He said as a smile crossed his face, taking off his glasses as he watched her smile as well. "Well then Doctor, Allons-y!" She joked as he suddenly lost his smile. "Hey, that's my catch phrase! I started that!" He rambled on.
Cebonar helped as the Doctor began scratching away at the soft dirt that covered the roads. He didn't dig long as his fingers brushed across a metal panel, but it was able to be opened. They looked at each other before looking around. "Well... what does it mean?" She asked as he fumbled with his Sonic Screwdriver, testing the sound it made every so often. Once he was happy with the sound he began to slowly move away from the metal patch they dug up, leading away from the town and back into the fields.
Cebonar stuck close to the Doctor as she was counting down the time till the sun set once again, as if the universe knew what she was thinking the land turned pitch black again. Though this time the villagers carried on with their tasks, bright lights illuminating the town. She clutched the arm of his trench coat as the only light close to them was the screwdriver in his hand.
It didn't take long at their speed to reach the end of the trail, a large rock stood out randomly against the mineral barren field. "This can't be right..." She said as she felt the rock but shrugged and began to look away. "Try again." He said as he touched the rock himself and gave it a slight push. The rock almost seemed to move before her eyes as he easily pushed it to the side. "Wait.. what?" She asked bewildered by the event. "There is only a few aliens with this kind of technology." He said as he gritted his teeth.
"What kind Doctor?" She asked as she walked behind him, shocked by the sudden lack of light as they had entered a hall way. She spun around to see where they came from and instead of a rock it was a large door surrounded by rock walls. "How is that possible?" She asked as she turned back to the angry looking Doctor. "It's a device created to disguise objects, sort of like what my Tardis has." He said as he didn't even turn his head to look at her.
She was confused as he stomped through the dimly lit halls, the area oddly turning more and more technological the more they went on. As they approached another door the Doctor suddenly stopped. He spun on his heels and looked at her. "I could be wrong and I really really hope that I am wrong but I if I'm right then you should stay out here. The.. the daleks are dangerous and heartless, they won't hesitate to destroy if they have the chance." He said as he absentmindedly grabbed her shoulders and looked down, sadness crossing his face.
Cebonar didn't understand what he was talking about but being outside was more scary then facing these monsters with the Doctor. "I'm not leaving you." She said as she reached up and clutched his hand, giving it a comforting squeeze. A small smile flashed across his face before it fell again. He nodded and turned around to open the door, the mechanical voices making his head ache and blood boil.
He didn't even care that he could be caught as he charged through the room filled with tubs of liquid and testubes of every kind. Cebonar jogged to keep up with him but noticed the scientific feel to the room and it made a shiver creep up her spine. "What's going on here?" She whispered as she grabbed his hand to get comfort of her own. "This is a lab they created... to use the muscle fibers of the Galthraxes." He said as his brow furrowed deeper and his grip tightening on her hand. Before she realized what had happened she turned to face where they were going and jumped as a blue light stared back at her.
"Identify... Identified as "The Doctor"" it spoke in a cybernetic voice. The Doctor stared back at them with fire in his eyes. The blue light turned to face her and adjusted itself. "Identify or be Exterminated." It spoke making her gulp. She couldn't look away but felt a sense of relief as her Doctor stepped in front of her, hiding her from the machines. "Worry about me, Now tell me why you are attacking the Galthraxes!" He yelled getting straight to the point.
"Exterminate the Doctor." the machine called out loudly attracting the attention of all the matching machines around it. He pulled out his sonic screw driver and point it at what Cebonar assumed was it's face... or eye. "You've tried too many times, let me tell you that it's never going to work." He said as he kept a stern look. "Now Explain!"
The Dalek was silent as it had fixated on him, neither budging the slightest. "Dalek are supreme, we do not explain our actions to non Daleks." It finally replied as Cebonar could see the Doctor's eye twitch in frustration. "I'm warning you to surrender or I will be forced to deal with it myself!" He growled out as Cebonar clutched the back of his jacket, they were surrounded by the intimidating beasts. "Exterminate the Doctor!"
She felt herself being pulled before her feet could react, stumbling as she realized they were now running. "What are we going to do!?" She demanded as she held the Doctor's hand tightly. "Fix this mess!" He yelled as he jumped over a table, knocking over various testing machines in the process. "They weren't expecting an attack from a peaceful planet so this base it built for temporary use only, which means that it has a big red button somewhere that probably says "Do not touch"" He said as Cebonar smirked at his analogy.
They both ducked as blue lasers shot past them, setting things ablaze. They reached a large control panel at the end of the room and he skidded to a stop, pushing over a barrel of substance, the smell turning his stomach as the sacrifice of the Galthraxes became apparent. The Daleks panicked as they tried to recover their research, leaving the Doctor enough time to start wildly typing on the panel.
As they started coming once more the Doctor hit one last button before tackling Cebonar behind a counter as thousands of beams shot at them. "This place is going down soon, shall we continue running?" He asked as they laid on the ground behind a counter, panting from the sudden bursts. "Well you are the Doctor, what do you prescribe?" She said with a smile as he grinned back at her.
As they began to recharge their lasers he pulled her up and started running for the exit. "Time to stop running Doctor!" the Cybernetic voice called out but received no reply. "Are we going to make it before they do?" Cebonar huffed out as she felt the burning in her chest and legs. The lack of answer scared her as they blew through the lab once more, dodging shots as best they could.
The hallway seemed so much more crowded as they bolted through it, the echo of the Daleks growing as more filtered in through the frame behind them, filling up the tunnel. With the door in sight, she cursed as the pitch blackness of the night time sky hid their path. "Come On!" The Doctor yelled out as loud as he could as he pushed his legs are hard as they could go.
They burst through the fake door ans quickly spun around, closing it behind them as the Daleks began catching up. "How will that stop them!?" She cried before she felt her arm being pulled again. "It won't! But this will!" He called out as he kept running. The Dalek had pushed the door open but their cries were drowned out when a large explosion sent all of them flying.
Both the Doctor and Cebonar were thrown foreword and rolled to a stop on the soft grass as a wave of heat made them gasp for air. They had a few singed hairs and a few bruises, the Dalek's not being as lucky. The Doctor was the first to sit up and shook his head to clear the ringing in his ears. He quickly scampered to his feet and ran to his companion. Cebonar was on her stomach as her ears ringed painfully, her vision was unfocused as all she could really comprehend was how soft the grass was. She felt like she could fall asleep here but something disturbed her. She was rolled over and the bright flames hurt her eyes as the base had caught on fire.
"Cebonar!" The Doctor called out as he checked her body over to make sure nothing was broken. The ringing in her ears slowly began to clear up as the sound of the Doctors voice reached her. She kept hearing him call her name but she couldn't reply as well as she wanted to. She tried to nod her head but she felt exhausted. She could feel herself be picked up then everything went black.
When she woke up she was back in the Tardis, the distinct whirling sound giving it away. She stirred as she noticed a needle in her arm. She tried to sit up but some blob pushed her back down gently. She rubbed her eyes with her free hand and blinked a few times, realizing it was the Doctor. She smiled weakly as he propped her bed up and checked her over again.
After a few hours she was back to normal, other then the painful bruises on her body. "So what did I miss? Last I recall we were running." She asked as the Doctor sat down beside her bed. "Well after the explosion you were knocked out and it was still dark outside. I carried you back to the town until it was morning then put you in the Tardis so I know you'd be safe. I went back to scavenge the Dalek's base, making sure they were all gone. When I did one of them still had enough energy left to fire at me."
Cebonar was slightly more alert as he said that, she looked him up and down and that's when she noticed a shoddy bandage wrap job around his thigh. "It turns out there was no beast at all either." The Doctor continued, looking away from her to focus on the story. "The Dalek's were scaring the Galthraxes with the idea of a fake beast then using the well as a point to send out tools to collect some of the citizens, the only reason we found the murdered one was because they went into hiding mode when we arrived."
"Wow... so are they safe again?" She asked as she picked at the cotton blanket on her. The Doctor and her eyes met and locked as he finished his story. "They are, but you on the other hand..." His voice trailed off as his smile faded and his whole face seem to droop. "I'm so sorry." He said as he looked at her. "What do you mean? I don't have anything too bad." She said as she quickly checked herself over again. "Cebonar.. you've been asleep for a week. You had broken ribs and your wrist, I was able to repair them." He said as he had to look away, the guilt on his face quite obvious. "I'm so so sorry." He said as he stuck his hands in the pocket of his trench coat and stood up. Cebonar caught his hand and gently pulled him back. "It's not your fault." She said with a smile. He smiled back at her but she could see that it was forced, his eyes still holding a hint of sadness.
A few days later Cebonar was back on her hooves and already jumped head first into another adventure, with her Doctor.
