So many thing surprised me in this episode, it's almost not funny. This scene both terrified and excited me. Did you notice the Hotdiggitydemong pictures, by any chance? What the heck! And the fingers, and the original MLP face... that was an episode that had insanity worthy of our pink heroine.
I know what you mean Truth is i never sew the Hotdiggitydemong till you said that i looked and your right it looks a lot like them. also this scene was not my cup of tea if you know what i mean it did not look well done plus the pinkies looked like they were in a lot of pain i have never been a fan of my inflation stories having the character in a lot of pain. But the sad thing is i think the worst part was how they seemed to try so hard to make references to the fandom with the show yet failed on most of them. The only that i liked that i saw were the pinkie staring at paint dry (Could be referencing about the fanfic) all the others i was not a fan of the fingers and the old MLP face just looked wrong i think the makers maybe trying to hard now.....i can only hope it gets better..... oh as a side note this is all opinion your free to disagree.
Ol'Squeaks didn' think they looked like they were in pain. Especially NOT in an MLP show.
Truth is magic an inflation has often gone together in cartoons (fer some reason).
It's probably also a reference to Bubblizing in the Rayman games.
They don' explode though. Ifn ye look carefully they swell up, then shrink an vanish into trails of pink mist.

Never played Rayman games so i would not know. And as for the whole "Ifn ye look carefully they swell up, then shrink an vanish into trails of pink mist" i never noticed that good work i guess i don't feel as bad still sad they had to get rid of all the pinkies :) and i guess i should have worded the whole pain thing better i guess i should have said the way they inflated looked painful to me.....i know that makes no sense but maybe your right and I'm just looking to much into things.
And yeah i mean i like references but i feel they are trying to get the show to be all about them. i mean liked the references as a treat they would give us once in a while not all at once.

An MLP has had 'off' times before this (the Capn' was less then fond of Maredowell's moral of bullyin people into bein less prideful).
Still that's due to the wide assortment of writers on the crew.

Yeah, seriously, I laughed at the Hotdiggity demon pictures, but once they had "fingers" and that "face", it was just a bit too much. If they had left one of those, it'd be fine, but three in one episode? The references should stay small, like when Lyra was reaching for a milkshake in the background and Bon Bon went to talk to her. And the inflation was really weird looking. I agree with the Captain, they don't look like they are in pain, but it's not inflation that looks immediately pleasing. I do think it looks funny for it's purpose, though.
However, I think this is a reference, too. Did you ever see Invader Zim? Pigs looked almost exactly like this in that show. I did enjoy the episode, I thought it was funny, but I don't want to see another one like it. The writers for the show said they are forbidden from reading fanfiction, however, so I think the paint drying thing is a coincidence.

Pinkie seems to do that to whatever episode she stars in. I did like how the test was for Pinkie to prove that she could deny her natural personality for the sake of her friends.
The only thing is, hasn't pinkie cloned herself before? Look at "Baby Cakes" and you'll clearly see her talking to herself. :P
