Crystalisks are peaceful creatures. They usually attack only when you are really close, or if provoked. And they can be pretty hard to kill if you are several levels below them.
I knew about their badassery, so I told my mate to leave them alone. But he wanted to shoot them anyway and this is what happened.

You should try it anyway. They created a class for all people not familiar with FPS (it's a dlc you have to add, and it costs around 10$) and it's Gaige the mechromancer (the girl you see in this comic). the first 2 powers you can unlock are a fast health regeneration and bullets that richochet toward enemies, so if your aim is bad, you can shoot on the ground and the bullets reach the target anyway.
So you have no reasons to not give it a try! You'll love this game!
