I noticed that i didn't have this picture in my gallery, so i decided to post it here. This is a reff sheet done by
gNAW from AC 2010 and one of my most prized pieces. I love how he turned out with this and gNAW is an extremely talented artists to have really pulled off this amazing job.
This is Silver Meridoc, my fursona, he's a cybernetic wolf I put in a lot of my stories and is the center point for all my other characters, each one aiding him in some for or having been bested by him.

Lol, coincidence?
Silver's one of my oldest, but he isn't the only character i have with robotics; a lot of main ones I have use robotic ligaments or are cyborg/android derivatives.
Its something I like, but I also decided to stop using it as a crutch and began to look at some other characters developing without robotics.

Interesting, never prospected into the steam-punk method of robotics, though after seeing a few anime's where they use such things in interesting examples I may decide to second guess myself. Hell, clock-work stuff is always interesting, if not curious to look at and use for character design (just never liked the amount of detail limbs tend to take with those methods, takes longer to draw,)
yeah clockwork devices have very complex mechanisms but you can always cover them in protective plates leaving juts some parts visible on the joints or actuators, Dietrich limbs are a mix of steam and clockwork not to mention dietrich began only wearing a prosthetic arm, but after a battle he ended up with 2 prosthetic arms and a prosthetic leg
Yeah, guess that was my biggest issue, despite the amazing complexity and design of clock-work esq limbs, it just feels that it would still be exposed, considering they need the space to function. Slapping armour plates just seems 'half-hazard' in suiting a very important piece oif your gear, hell, your body, to be used in combat. Most of my works tend to be more streamline, but also cause its easy to draw XD.
Most of my characters were either develop with the limbs through an advanced integrated muscle-cybernetic operation. Natalia for example, my tigress who has all four of her limbs and tail robotic, required it due to her development process because her limbs weren't growing properly and were risking her losing them and eventually her entire body. As such, they had to develop that method of technology to keep her alive.
