I guess! Well here churches had to be impressive, and so they always used stone to be impressive. Bricks were considered for utilitarian or poor buildings; and I think that before the 19th century, bricks wouldn't simply be made resistant enough for the kind of tall, impressive buildings churches were.

Most brick churches here are in the North... interestingly, just near England.

Maybe they belong to different "Churches"? the Roman Catholic Church always give funds when they need to impress people with large buildings. Or they made one main church then they made small others when the town grows? For this I can't tell ^^There isn't much "sub-religions" here, and so I don't really know how it works in other countries.
