As many of you probably know, the 2012 New York City Marathon was cancelled earlier this month due to Hurricane Sandy - which caused its most damage in Staten Island (the starting point of the annual race).
By sheer coincidence, I recently came across a doodle I'd drawn (around the turn of the 21st Century), whose main character I'd created with a marathon in mind...
'Charlie' the cheetah is the world's fastest living being on Earth, and he decided to participate in a typical marathon. But when he found out that a marathon is over 26 miles in length, he had some reservations about running such a long distance (especially since cheetahs can only run in short sprints)...
The following text was written next to said doodle:
(quote) "Having never participated in a marathon before, 'Charlie' had learned that he must eat a lot of pasta, in order to burn up all those carbohydrates during the big race. The only problem is, he never had pasta before, and once the cheetah started eating the stuff, he never stopped - relishing in this newest taste sensation!" (unquote)
Judging by all the spaghetti and meatballs 'Charlie' had consumed (and all those empty bowls next to him), the big cat (now way bigger) won't be able to waddle, much less run, and the only way he could complete said marathon was if the entire 26 miles was all downhill (for him to roll)!
BTW, if this doodle looks familiar to some of you, that's because (a few years after I'd drawn it) I had rendered an image of a fattened version of 'Eric Cheetah' - one of the various 'fursonas' of
therealEricFox - which I had posted on the Internet back in the last decade. (If I can find it, I'll post it here in "FA" in the near future.)
Anyway, enjoy this marathon pic, in lieu of the cancelled marathon in NYC!
